A demo has been released for a Zelda fan game that has been inspired by the 2D prototype originally created by Nintendo, when developing The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild.
The game which has been titled Zelda: Breath of the NES, has been described by its creators as a “new adventure in the classic Zelda style, but with smooth animations and a more interactive world.” The demo, now currently available, lets players move around in a 2D over world and gives them the opportunity to test out various items and game mechanics.
You can check out the trailer for Zelda: Breath of the NES below, it also shows off some improvements that have already been made since its release.
Currently, the developer of Breath of the NES, WinerDrake is actively looking for more people to join its development team. Specifically artists and composers.
The project page on itch.io does note however that this is an unlicensed project. So it maybe possible that Breath of the NES may suffer the same fate as fan made Pokemon games Pokemon Uranium and Pokemon Prism. Nintendo forced both of those fan made game offline due to breach of copyright.
