Outlast 2 – Review Roundup

outlast 2

The reviews are in for the next in the horror series, Outlast 2. Branded one of the scariest game of the year, this survival horror experience complete with jumps, scares, monsters and gore, is now available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Gamespot – 7/10

“Outlast 2’s maniacal commitment to its core conceit is simultaneously its greatest strength and its greatest weakness. Like the original–which helped popularize first-person survival horror when it launched in 2013–Outlast 2 casts you as a hapless everyman with zero fighting skills and no tools beyond a camcorder. Your only option when confronted with grotesque, bloodthirsty murderers is to run and hide.” [Full Review]

PC Gamer – 85/100

“What if the most deranged, doom-saying cultists are right? Outlast 2 prods this question with a pointy stick until it bleeds, festers, and wails in agony. While it plays very similarly to the original, Outlast 2 takes its Christian themes into extremely uncomfortable and surprising territory, avoiding what could have been a familiar trek through cultish cliches.” [Full Review]

IGN – 8.3/10

“Not for the faint of heart, Outlast 2’s relentless scares, unforgiving monsters, and provocative meditations on faith are an anxiety-inducing but cathartic horror experience. While it suffers from a couple of pacing problems and some finicky navigation issues, its careful – and sadistic – manipulation of my fight-or-flight reflex had me experiencing an overwhelming sense of dread throughout, which abated only once the credits were rolling. The ending, however, stayed with me for days.” [Full Review]

Polygon – 7.5/10

“Horror is one of my favorite genres. I devote a lot of my time to scary books, films and games — including the original Outlast, released in 2013, a game that I found sufficiently frightening if not necessarily groundbreaking. I love getting scared. I relish these experiences.”
