Reviews for the next instalment of the Mario Kart franchise have been positive. Praising the games new additions such as battle mode. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is available now on Nintendo Switch and you can check out some of the reviews below.
Gamespot – 9/10
“Even if you didn’t really care about Battle Mode, the smallest changes in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe refine an already great racing game. But the huge overhaul to the original’s afterthought of a Battle Mode is a chaotic, varied opportunity to play very differently than in Grand Prix mode and well worth reinvesting yourself in Mario Kart 8 on Switch.” [Full Review]
IGN – 9.3/10
“Mario Kart 8 Deluxe looks great on the Switch, too! It’s just as amazing in 2017 as it was in 2014, and great art direction is a major reason that the graphics have stood the test of time. The course designs, in particular, are top notch – I love the way Mario Circuit twists and bends like a Mobius strip. Even remade tracks, like SNES Rainbow Road or F-Zero’s Mute City, have remarkable detail that is noticeable whether you’re playing handheld or on a TV. The framerate does drop from 60 to 30 frames per second if you play on a single Switch with three or four players, but that’s hardly a dealbreaker when the racing looks this good.” [Full Review]
Destructoid – 9.5/10
“Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is straight-up a better version of the game without compromise. It looks crisper, there’s more to do, it’s portable, and it might even outsell the Wii U version to ensure a healthier long-term community. With battle mode firmly in place, it’s one of the best kart racers ever made.” [Full Review]
“It’s an exquisite addition that rounds off an outstanding package, and the only real question that lingers around Mario Kart 8 is where Nintendo can take the series after this. It’s a question we might not know the answer to for some time, with Mario Kart 8’s original director Kosuke Yabuki having moved on to the forthcoming fighting game Arms, so for now Mario Kart 8 Deluxe looks set to be the definitive instalment.” [Full Review]
