A Russian YouTuber who filmed himself playing Pokemon Go in a church has received a 3.5 year suspended sentence.

22 year old Ruslan Sokolovsky was found guilty of insulting religious believers and inciting hatred in a court in the city of Yekaterinburg.

Sokolovsky was also found guilty of ‘illegal trafficking of special technical equipment’ after a search of his house found a pen with a built-in video camera.

In a statement to the BBC, Sokolovsky mentioned that the way he presented his video was “too cynical for Russian society”.

After the verdict was announced, Sokolvosky made the following statement: “Until the very last moment I didn’t know what the sentencing would be, that’s why I was very nervous and feared I would get a real prison term,”.

The BBC also reports that Sokolovsky has said he has already apologised to religious believers.
