Sonic Mania was due to release on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch on 15th August. The PC version of the game however has been delayed.
SEGA shared the news of the delay over a livestream on Friday stating that the PC version is “going in for a bit more optimization.” The game has therefore been pushed back two weeks to the 29th August.
The Sonic community manager, Aaron Webber, went onto say that “The team is working really hard to make sure it works on all platforms and on a lot of things to touch it up,”. He continued “We are not going to put out a game that is not the best it can be,” he went on to say “And we’re going to maintain that level of quality and consistency and dedication to that quality. It is so important to us.”
During the livestream Sonic Team creative director Kazuyuki Hoshino came on for a live unboxing of the collectors edition of the game. He revealed that Sonic Team members have signed 26 collectors editions boxes that will go on sale randomly in North America. Sonic Team hope this will go some way to make up for the two week PC delay of the game.
Sega will be handing out free Steam copies of the original Sonic the Hedgehog. This will be available to anyone who pre-orders Mania by 15th August or purchases the Collector’s Edition.
