“We had the biggest Black Friday in PlayStation history,” Lempel said. “We sold more consoles than we ever have in our 23-year history, and [PlayStation] Plus is a natural addition to that purchase.”
This news follows Sony’s recent Q2 2017 financial results which reported the Playstation business as being the biggest driver behind the firm’s success and revenue growth.
In the CNBC interview, Lempel also said that consumers loved the big, immersive games in VR and that it was not an accessory but an exciting new technology.
In other related news, Sony accounted for nearly half of all VR headset sales globally selling 490,000 units in Q3 2017 according to a report from research company Canalys. It also reported that VR headset shipments were showing no signs of slowing with the quarterly total sold exceeding 1 million units for the first time in Q3 2017.
