The latest Nintendo Direct video has set out an impressive road-map of games which will come to the Switch this year, including Dark Souls Remastered, Mario Tennis Aces and Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze.
Dark Souls Remastered – which will also come out on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC – will arrive for the Switch on 25 May, will include the Artorias of the Abyss downloadable content, and boast a resolution and frame-rate which have been upgraded from the PS3/Xbox 360 original. This trailer gives you a taste of how it will look on the Switch.
Mario Tennis is due to arrive for the Switch this spring, and will include a Story mode. The Switch version of Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze will arrive on 4 May, and will feature a Beginner’s mode in which you can play as Funky Kong – who has the ability to double-jump, hover, perform infinite rolls and glide over spikes on his surfboard.
Kirby Star Allies now has a March 16 release date. And in February, Super Mario Odyssey will get an update that adds a new mini-game called Balloon World.
Nintendo describes it thus: “Once players download the free update and complete the main story, Balloon World will become available. To get started, players just have to talk to Luigi. In “Hide It” mode, players have a limited amount of time to hide a balloon. In “Find It” mode, players have the same period of time to locate balloons hidden by other players from around the world. Players can move up in rank by finding hidden balloons and becoming expert hiders. The free update will be released in February with new Snapshot Mode filters and new outfits.”
Last year, the Switch made a storming start to its life, but there were question-marks over whether Nintendo and third-party publishers could sustain that momentum. However, the games unveiled and detailed in the latest Nintendo Direct bode very well for Switch owners.
