Square Enix has released the first details of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, due to be released on September 14, 2018.
It will be the third instalment of a trilogy that began with 2013’s Tomb Raider reboot and continued with 2015’s Rise of the Tomb Raider. Square Enix says that in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, “Lara must master a deadly jungle, overcome terrifying tombs, and persevere through her darkest hour. As she races to save the world from a Maya apocalypse, Lara will be forged into the Tomb Raider she is destined to be.”
David Anfossi, Head of Studio at Eidos Montreal, added: “Shadow of the Tomb Raider will challenge Lara Croft in new and unexpected ways. Our team has created a diverse set of skills, combat techniques and equipment for players to master, and they’ll certainly need them if they hope to survive the deadly jungle environments and tombs.”
Lara Croft, as in the two previous games, will be voiced by Camilla Luddington, and it seems appropriate that the coming-of-age conclusion of the rebooted Tomb Raider trilogy should take place in the Mayan jungle, perhaps the series’ most iconic setting. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is now available for pre-order on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC; keep an eye on the official website for further details and news.
