The artistic mastermind behind cult classics Ico and Shadow Of The Colossus has confirmed he is working on a new project.
Gematsu has translated an interview with Ueda from Weekly Famitsu, which revealed a number of tidbits about his next project.
According to the translated interview, his studio genDesign are in the prototype phase. “we’re actually making our ideas to test if they’re interesting or not”, a process being supported by Kowloon Nights, which is a game fund that previously aided titles like Scavenger Studios’ The Darwin Project.
“We’re working out the core parts first, and from there we’ll make it into a stable product. That’s our challenge this time”
Despite the fact Ueda and his team are no longer working with Sony and are in independent development, he claims that they’re still aiming for “something on the scale of Ico, Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian.”
Ueda also confirmed that the game is a “completely new title” before ruminating on expanding his team if the project demanded it.
“If larger-scale development becomes of interest to us, then I think we will significantly expand our development system… to make it a big game.”
Due to Ueda’s mention of prototypes, it looks like this project is still very early, but we will be sure to reveal any more details as and when they become available.
