Sonic the Hedgehog racing spin-off Team Sonic Racing was set for a Winter 2018 release window but has now been delayed until early next year.
A collaboration between Sega and Sumo Digital, the game was revealed at South by South West earlier this year with a teaser trailer and has since been demoed at E3 and Gamescom.
The delay pushes the game back to May 21’st 2019, and comes from a need to improve the game and bring it up to standard to provide “the best gameplay experience possible.”
“During the additional time, Sega and Sumo Digital will continue to hone the title to enhance the player experience.”
Sega apologized for any inconvenience for keen fans raring to speed around tracks as Sonic, Shadow and the rest of the gang.
This is the fourth Sonic racing title, with previous titles like Sonic R and Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing providing a similar arcade experience for fans of the Japanese publisher and its many iconic characters.
Whilst it’s a shame we won’t see the game before the end of the year, hopefully this means it’ll be a better experience for everyone when it eventually launches in 2019. When it does, you can pick it up on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
