Japanese business publication Nikkei claims that Nintendo is preparing to release a smaller, cheaper version of the Switch.
The speculation comes alongside the news that Nintendo has revised its sales forecast for Switch units in 2019 downwards from 20 million to 17 million – even though, as we reported, the Switch is approaching the Nintendo64’s lifetime sales after less than two years in the shops.
It is believed that a cut-down, cheaper and more portable version of the Switch could do without the TV dock and possibly its cartridge slot, forcing owners to download games. The speculation makes sense since a cheaper Switch would stand a good chance of making up the sales forecast shortfall.
