After the runaway success of the 2016 roguelike Darkest Dungeon, the team behind the game have revealed that they are working on a sequel.
A teaser video has dropped for the upcoming game, which holds the subtitle “The Howling End.” It doesn’t reveal much, honestly, but follows the characters you know approaching a massive tundra, with icy hills and snowy peaks off in the distance.
It looks gorgeous and appears to be a definite scene change for the developers. The main question asked by the teaser is “Are you courageous enough to carry the flame?” An ominous ode to this game’s plot and setting.
The trailer is narrated by Wayne June who was responsible for the brilliant voice work in the first game. These details and more were confirmed by PC Gamer, who got an early details scoop from the developers at Red Hook.
In the article, the developers note that they have more unconventional horror stories to tell and that the combat system is receiving a “significant tune-up- mechanically, and in terms of presentation.”
The small independent developer confirmed that they “aren’t in a rush to grow” but are hiring at the moment to help build the latest game.
Much like the first game, Darkest Dungeon 2 will drop into Early Access when it’s ready. As for platforms, we can make some educated guesses, but nothing confirmed as of right now.
