Reports have emerged on Reddit of Anthem causing PS4s to crash, in some cases terminally, leading Sony to offer refunds for the game to those who seek them.
In an Anthem Reddit thread, entitled: “This is the only game that causes a complete PS4 shutdown”, a user with the handle SoundAndFury87 said: “Sony is aware of the issue and is offering a complete refund on Anthem no questions asked. Took me 5 minutes.”
Other users, though, have reported that their attempts to get Sony to refund the cost of Anthem were unsuccessful, suggesting that Sony runs a “One refund, no questions asked” policy for each of its customers. The thread included a discussion as to whether the crashing was caused by thermal issues on the PS4 Pro, which generally runs hot, but according to LachsMahal: “Don’t think it’s thermal. It’s happened to me multiple times when I closed the game through the quick menu. It wouldn’t keep happening at a particular moment if it was thermal.”
Reports of Anthem causing Xbox Ones to crash have also surfaced, although none of those crashes have been reported as bricking the console itself – it must be pointed out that we have been playing the game on an Xbox One X without experiencing any crashes. However, EA and BioWare must surely look into the reports and move to solve the crash-bugs as soon as possible.
BioWare has set out a 90-day roadmap for Anthem which, somewhat ironically in light of the crashing reports, begins: “The world of Anthem is a dangerous place. Chaotic. Unpredictable. A world left unfinished and abandoned by the gods” and promises “Recurring updates” addressing “Quality of life: Fixes, Improvements and Optimizations”.
So far, EA and BioWare have not acknowledged the reports of Anthem bugs crashing and bricking consoles, but we’ll bring you any news of their efforts to fix the problems. In the meantime, it might be worth watching the game’s website.
