God Of War And Obra Dinn Dominate Bafta Game Awards

The 2019 Bafta Game Award nominations have been revealed, and everybody’s favourite sad dad has out-parented the competition.

Cory Barlog and Sony Santa Monica’s God of War has picked up 10 nominations, ranging from Best Narrative to Artistic Achievement.

Red Dead Redemption 2 picked up a healthy 6 nominations, as did Lucas Pope’s magnum opus Obra Dinn, which is up for best game alongside the delightful VR title Astro Bot: Rescue Mission.

A surprising but well deserved bit of recognition for two of last years best games, who otherwise would have been drowned out by the noise of other AAA titles.

Yoku’s Island Express, Florence, Donut County and Beat Saber also got well deserved nods for best Debut Game. Tetris Effect also nabbed some much needed recognition with a nod for best music.

All around this is a delightfully diverse round of nominations for this years Baftas, indicative of a flourishing indie scene and top flight production values in AAA. It will be interesting to see if there’s any upsets when the winners are revealed this April 4.
