A revealing Capcom blog has provided fans with more insight on the upcoming Monster Hunter World: Iceborne expansion.
The runaway success of the original release has been something to behold – Monster Hunter World is now the best-selling Capcom game of all time, which has naturally enabled the development of extra content as fans want to keep grinding – fighting more nuanced monsters in varied environments.
This seems to be the point of Iceborne, which transports players to the Tundra, complete with terrible ice born beasts and new weapons to get to grips with in order to defeat them.
Capcom’s story trailer is a great introduction to this new world, which features plenty of monster infighting and beast migration – the story was never the most important part of World but it’s nice to see efforts to expand upon the lore. There’s also some gnarly mounted raptor-riding in the trailer and some platforming stunts for the adrenaline-chasers.
Some beasts have also been showcased including a ‘New World’ version of the Tigrex, but the most important part of the blog is the mini-series of videos documenting the new weapons headed to the game.
The most interesting of the bunch is the Clutch Claw, a Sekiro-esque grappling hook weapon that looks deadly! There are also new heavy, light and technical weapons for players to test out depending on their build.
Capcom also announced their plans for E3, which include tons of demo stations where players can hunt a Banbaro or a Tigrex within Hoarfrost Reach – a new location for Iceborne.
So if you’re at the show, get ready to rumble! I’m sure we’ll hear more about Iceborne at E3, perhaps within Microsoft’s conference on June 9. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is currently looking at a September 6 release for PS4 and Xbox One, with PC coming later down the line.
