Borderlands 3 won’t be confined to the planet of Pandora anymore, the game’s plot will see the protagonist vault hunters spread their wings to other planets, searching for other Vaults, and attempting to stop the dastardly Calypso Twins’ evil plot.
Thanks to a short video released over Twitter, we now have a bit more information about one of these locations that players will visit – the urban planet of Promethea.
Covered in a vast urban sprawl, Promethea looks to have a completely different feel to that of Pandora. Pandora, of course, was heavily inspired by the Old West and films such as Mad Max. Promethea, on the other hand, is a high-tech cityscape, ruled by the Atlas Corporation.
Confirming previous titbits of information regarding older characters coming back, the trailer heavily features Rhys from the excellent Tales From the Borderlands series by the sadly defunct Telltale Games. He now runs the Atlas Corporation, and has now been equipped with a snazzy mustache and a surname – he’s now Rhys Strongfork.
At war with rival weapons company Maliwan, Promethea promises to mix together high tech enemies with trademark Borderlands-style creatures, this time being toothsome rodent/insect hybrids named Ratches. It appears the war with Maliwan will form a central conflict around which the action will take place, with legless robotic foes flying through the air.
All in all it’s a big departure from what we’ve become accustomed to from the Borderlands series, and we’ll have to wait and see how it translates to gameplay nearer to the launch date.
Borderlands 3 will be releasing on the 13th of September, 2019 on PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox One, and Google Stadia. For the latest Borderlands 3 news and updates, stay tuned to the Borderlands website and our very own Newsroom.
