Corsair, the American peripherals and PC hardware component manufacturers, have announced as of Wednesday that they have acquired Origin PC, the custom PC gaming system builders.
Origin PC have existed for over a decade, founded by former AlienWare executives, and have spent that time building high-performing custom PC rigs for paying customers. They have also branched out to start their own Twitch channel, where they would build and walk viewers through the process of building a PC live on stream.
Corsair on the other hand has been in business for twenty five years. Originally most associated with RAM and other memory products, they have since expanded their business to cover other PC peripherals and parts. In a previous acquisition, Corsair have also joined forces with Elgato Gaming, completing the process roughly a year ago.
“With the gaming PC market continuing to expand as an increasing number of players make the jump from console to PC, we wanted to do more to reach customers in North America that prefer to buy, rather than build, their system,” said Andy Paul, Founder and CEO of CORSAIR. “With ORIGIN PC’s expertise in personalized [sic] custom gaming systems and CORSAIR’s strength in performance PC hardware and the iCUE software ecosystem, we’re excited to combine our efforts to create new world-class gaming experiences for PC gamers.”
The Corsair and Origin PC brands will both continue separately at this time, however, we do expect to see Corsair products and services, such as their proprietary iCue software, becoming more integrated with PCs built and sold by Origin.
This all implies that Corsair is staking out its claim to become a one-stop-shop for all things PC hardware. We’ll have to wait to see what the future holds for the newly joined companies, but for now don’t forget we’ll have the latest in PC hardware and PC gaming news right here on the Newsroom.
