Respawn Entertainment, creators of free-to-play Battle Royale hit Apex Legends, have announced their next step into the world of esports. The Apex Legends Preseason Invitational will kick off in September and will have a prize pool of $500,000 USD (£411,215 GBP).
The Preseason has already kicked off with a series of Apex Legends competitions being held in a variety of places, including the EXP Pro-Am Apex Legends Exhibition in Los Angeles. The Preseason will continue in August in Minneapolis where the next stage will be held at the X Games, which follows on from the X Games Qualifiers held in June.
The Apex Legends Preseason Invitational, however, will kick off in Krakow in Poland on the 13th of September and run until the 15th of September. It’ll be invite-only with teams being chosen after registering on the Apex Legends website, with eighty teams from around the world being selected to duke it out. The prize pool has been set at $500,000 USD, which for us UK readers stands at just over 400,000 GBP.
The way that the Apex Legends Preseason Invitational will work is via a double-elimination tournament. The eighty teams selected will fight it out, playing a set number of matches per round. These matches will determine if the teams involved get eliminated, shift to the losers bracket, or continue on to the winning tier.
After sixty teams are eliminated the final twenty will all be part of the winners’ bracket, and all will share in the $500,000 prize pool, with the final winners taking home a potential $105,000 USD (£86,378.25 GBP).
