So you may have noticed that there was no letter from the engine room the week before last, but fear not as we are back, and today we are looking at the new Games Library.
Scanning all of the Green Man Gaming community’s game data is no small task as you guys play a lot of games. So this task is given to a programme we affectionately call Hotcoffee. Its named after the mod from Grand Theft Auto. Hotcoffee’s job is to monitor all of the Green Man Gaming accounts and record the game data to our database. This information needs to be recorded in a way which allows us to quickly show you your games and how you’re progressing through them.
Hotcoffee was originally written for Playfire and we reused it for the shop. We have added new endpoints to get the data needed so we can do the new layout for the new games library. An end point is a url(like a web page), our website calls and instead of a website returns the data needed to assemble the page.
The new game library sits in the new community section of the website and we have added some new features such as sorting and infinite scroll. So there is now no excuse for not knowing which games you have played the most on and no more clicking on next page buttons to get to the end of the list of games.
