The Chaos Engine is a top down shot em up with a cyberpunk setting and six different upgradeable characters that was originally released on the Amiga. It feel better to play it with a controller but from a gameplay perspective it can feel outdated when it comes to movement (you can't aim with the right stick) and how savepoints are done. What does make the game more interesting than a lot of similar games is the good looking graphics, six characters with different items and starting abilities, and the ability to increase your characters health, speed, and weapon power every two stages with the money you have found. Another thing setting the game apart is needing an AI partner with you if you do not have a second player, the AI companion actually does surprisingly well for how they usually act in games like this and for the time and you can upgrade their wisdom to make them better (I'm not actually sure how this changes them exactly). There are 16 stages with four different areas to fight through. There are better games like this now but this is still an enjoyable one to play if you find it for a lower price. If you have a friend that likes to play these kind of games the two pack might be worth a purchase.
Chaos Engine is an old classic that some gamers may still remember from their 16-bit days, when the game was a big Amiga hit. Now we can relive the same experience, because the game is not a modern remake - it has the same gameplay, the same graphics and music. It feels like a 20 years old game but it's a good one. The gameplay remains enjoyable but the game cannot hide its age, as it shows from every bit of the game. Fortunately the game tends to be cheap, comparable in its price to many games for mobile devices. And in fact that's what it would be easy to compare this game to - mobile games. So if you're nostalgic about the 90s or want to play something that would easily belong to the world of mobile gaming, get the Chaos Engine and enjoy it! Especially that in the 2-pack the price of one copy is even lower.
