The stunning plains and valley passes of Utah make Soldier Summit one of the best loved mountain passes of the western United States.
At the crest of the Wasatch Plateau, Soldier Summit is a 69 mile broad valley pass joining the communities of Helper and Provo, and is the highest point on the Denver and Rio Grande railroad in Utah. Discovered by Franciscan priests and used by Native Americans before them, the pass has been an important transportation route for many years.
Today, the summit is a popular photo spot for railfans, and the Gilluly loops - a series of horseshoe curves - on the western approach to the summit provide spectacular scenes as heavy freight trains power their way up the pass, a challenging drive for all railroad engineers and one that makes Soldier Summit an epic US rail route. Included with the route is a Rio Grande SD40T-2 diesel locomotive, the famous F40PH ‘California Zephyr’, and Rio Grande GP9 road switcher.

Train Simulator: Soldier Summit Route Add-On is one of the best DLC of the game Train Simulator 2016 which in my opinion is the best game of train simulator, along with this official dlc and those of the Workshop the hours of the game can be invested. Which makes it much more fun and entertaining
This is one of the best route DLCs in terms of value for money! There are a few reasons for this: Firstly, the scenery is unlike any other in Train Simulator content to date. It just looks completely different. The rock faces and middle-ground detailing is fantastic - there's always something to look at when you round each corner. You don't just get desert landscape either. There are sections with foreground foliage. The route lets itself down in similar areas to Donner Pass. Namely, being a long American route, you can go a long time without seeing any housing or much change in landscape. The scenarios can take a long time to play with little to do other than try to maintain a constant speed. One of the biggest benefits of this DLC is the amount of rolling stock included. This route was first released as part of a bundle; and as such it comes with more than the standard number of locos. Purchasing this pack will give you THREE locomotives with rolling stock! This makes for some interesting rail traffic on the route and in scenarios as standard. It's worth mentioning that the sound effects for some of the locos are not very unique. Further, it doesn't feature some of the improved sound effects that you get, ever since DTG have improved their in house QA. Also, if you were considering purchasing the F40PH as a separate DLC - It's included in this one!! I really recommend this route. It's quite unique and, although long, the scenery is very interesting. If you previously enjoyed Donner Pass, Marias Pass, Sherman Hill or other US Freight routes, I highly recommend this DLC. Even if you don't really like the thought of a long freight scenario, I would still suggest considering this pack as it's a very 'different' route. If you really only prefer smaller routes with frequent stops, this DLC is probably not for you.
