Valve To Change Steam Trading Cards To Combat ‘Fake Games’

Valve has announced in a blog yesterday that they are implementing changes to their Steam Trading Card system to hinder ‘fake games’ from farming cards, using hundreds of scripted Steam accounts.

They will be implementing a ‘confidence metric’, meaning that Trading Cards will only start to be released to users once the game has met certain criteria, proving that it is a real game.

This will also improve Valve’s ‘Store Algorithm’, the way in which they create a personalised recommended games list for each user, as games that have idling bots playing them for the Trading Cards increases their playtime, and therefore appear as popular or recommended.
