Formula 1 in partnership with Codemasters and Gfinity have announced the official Formula 1 eSports World Championship.
The inaugural season will start in September which will coincide with the launch of F1 2017. The qualification system for the championship will then run throughout September. This will then determine the 40 quickest divers.
The 40 drivers will then be invited to the live semifinals. These Semifinals will be held at on the 10th and 11th October at the Gfinity Arena in London. The 20 winners from the semifinals will then qualify for the final which will take place as part of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in November.
F1 commercial boss Sean Bratches stated “This launch presents an amazing opportunity for our business: strategically and in the way we engage fans,”
He continued “First, it’s a growing category with tremendous fan engagement that we’re entering in a big way; and we are proud to have Codemasters and Gfinity joining us on this ride.”
