Spyro the Dragon remasters coming to PS4 in 2018

According to a report in Kotaku, remastered versions of the first three Spyro the Dragon games will arrive for the PlayStation 4 in 2018.

Citing: “Multiple sources familiar with the project,” Kotaku believes that remakes of the original Spyro trilogy – Spyro the Dragon, Gateway to Glimmer and Year of the Dragon – will initially be released as PlayStation 4 exclusives, although they may also come to other platforms subsequently.

Spyro publisher Activision, according to Kotaku, will package the first three Spyro games in a similar manner to last year’s Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy. So we can expect improved graphics, a remastered soundtrack and extra assets. Vicarious Visions, the developer behind N.Sane Trilogy, is said to be the team behind the Spyro remasters.

There’s an element of timeliness to the exercise: this September will mark the 20th anniversary of the release of Spyro the Dragon on the original PlayStation. Meanwhile, we await news of whether Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy, still exclusive to the PlayStation 4, will become available for other platforms.
