Developer Daybreak Games has announced that over 1.5 million players participated in the first 24 hours of the open beta for H1Z1 on the PlayStation 4.

The battle royale shooter remains in open beta, and is currently available to download for free from the PlayStation Store. Producer Terrence Yee said: “This is an incredible milestone and we want to thank all of our players who helped make this possible. We believe we’ve found the right balance for battle royale on console, and players have responded positively to our reimagining of H1Z1. We will continue to refine the game based on feedback from the Open Beta to ensure the best experience possible for our actively growing community.”

Daybreak Games has not yet dated H1Z1’s full release on the PlayStation 4, although it says that will happen “This year.” It extensively redesigned the game for the PlayStation 4, expanding its weapons arsenal, updating its controls and user interface and easing loot collection.
