Final Fantasy XIV’s latest patch has triggered a Monster Hunter World crossover, bringing Rathalos from the latter game to the Final Fantasy MMO.
Final Fantasy XIV’s patch 4.36 brings crossover action from Monster Hunter World, for those who purchased FFXIV’s Stormblood expansion. Square-Enix describes the collision between the two franchises thus: “Level 70 Final Fantasy XIV Online players who have completed the “Stormblood” main scenario quest can immediately undertake “The New King of the Block” quest to face Rathalos in The Great Hunt trial—an eight-player battle that incorporates mechanics inspired by Monster Hunter: World. Those seeking a greater challenge can attempt The Great Hunt (Extreme), a four-player version of the trial that features additional hurdles to overcome.”
As ever, there are rewards on offer for those who successfully take on Rathalos: a Rathalos armour set, new Poogie and Palico minions, the ability to employ Rathalos as a mount and a new BBQ Spit furnishing. Square Enix adds that: “Patch 4.36 also introduces the next chapter in The Forbidden Land Eureka series: The Pagos Expedition. Players will now be able to explore an all-new area, further strengthen their Eureka weapons, and obtain additional rewards such as minions.”
A series of Final Fantasy XIV online fan festivals will soon kick off, with the first taking place on November 16 to 17 in Las Vegas, and the European leg scheduled for February 2 to 3 2019, at Paris’s La Grande Halle de La Villette. Head to Final Fantasy XIV’s Twitch channel to stream those, or to the Final Fantasy XIV website for more information.
