Henry Cavill to play Geralt in Netflix’s The Witcher

Henry Cavill will play Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s forthcoming TV dramatisation of The Witcher games franchise.

The actor best known for portraying Superman put a droll post on Instagram, saying: “My new mailing address is: Geralt, C/O Vesemir. Kaer Morhen, Kaer Morhen Valley, Hertch, Kaedwen. Please note, I’m rarely there. Monster slaying being what it is. So, replies will be few and far between, if at all.”

Cavill’s casting was originally announced by The Witcher showrunner Lauren S Hissrich on Twitter. She said: “He was my first meeting. I didn’t have writers or scripts yet – just a green light and a lot of passion. That was four months ago, and I’ve never forgotten the passion he brought. He IS Geralt. He always has been. I’m so thrilled to welcome HENRY CAVILL to the #Witcher family.”

Netflix originally announced that it would be making an eight-episode series of The Witcher, based on the games and the books from which they were derived, in 2017. Currently, it’s too early for any details regarding when the series will go into production to have emerged, but we’ll keep you posted with further news as it emerges.
