The Belgian Gaming Commission is reportedly investigating EA over a refusal to remove loot boxes from FIFA 18 and the upcoming FIFA 19.
As we previously reported, The Belgian Gaming Commission has been looking to remove or prosecute over the inclusion of loot boxes in videogames. Recently Blizzard has removed paid loot boxes from Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm, however, in a report in Nieuwsblad it is affirmed that EA has yet to do similar for FIFA 18 or the upcoming FIFA 19.
Niewusblad reports that EA is currently under investigation by the Brussels public prosecutor’s office as requested by the Belgian Gaming Commission for this refusal to remove paid loot boxes from products. This may be the start of a legal battle in court for publisher EA and the Belgian authorities.
As always, as soon as there’s any news, we’ll let you know.
