Telltale Games has provided hope that, despite laying off all but a skeleton core of its staff, The Final Season of its The Walking Dead game may still be completed.
As we reported last week, Telltale Games has embarked on a majority closure which will see 225 staff made redundant. The studio’s collapse has occurred at a time when only the first two episodes of The Walking Dead: The Final Season have been completed.
However, in a tweet, Telltale Games has provided hope that The Final Season may eventually be completed: “Hi everyone, we have a Walking Dead update for you. Multiple potential partners have stepped forward to express interest in helping to see The Final Season through to completion. While we can’t make any promises today, we are actively working towards a solution that will allow episodes 3 and 4 to be completed and released in some form. In the meantime, episode 2 will release tomorrow across all platforms as planned.”
As yet, no details have emerged about the identity of any of the “Multiple potential partners” which might help see the popular episodic point-and-click zombie survival game through to completion. And if another developer steps in to complete the season, there will surely be a considerable hiatus before The Final Season’s episode 3 emerges. But completing The Walking Dead: The Final Season would at least a small measure of catharsis after Telltale Games’ painful demise.
