Halo and now Destiny developer Bungie has filed a trademark for what appears to be a new game of some kind, codenamed ‘Matter’.
The news was discovered by ResetEra user yoonshik who posted the trademark to the forum.
Many are speculating that this may be the result of Bungie’s $100m funding deal with Chinese publisher NetEase and may mark another new IP for the developer.
The trademark was filed last week with the European Union Intellectual Property Office under the categories “computer game software” and “online entertainment services.”
Knowing Bungie’s track record with multiplayer, you could imagine this project may include PVP or Co-op in some part.
The filing comes with an accompanying graphic which is bright and colourful, a definite departure from Bungie’s usual style.
It’s highly likely we won’t hear much about this project for a long while yet, but this is an interesting and bold step for Bungie that informs fans of its upcoming plans in the industry. We will be back with more news on the Matter when it becomes available.
