Atari readies handheld, joystick-console for Christmas

Atari is poised to release a new retro handheld and a console-in-a-joystick.

On October 26, the once-pioneering console manufacturer will release the Atari ‘Retro’ Handheld, a handheld pre-loaded with 50 Atari 2600 games, and the Atari Plug & Play Joystick, a console inside a facsimile of the 2600’s iconic joystick, which plugs into a TV and contains the same 50 games as the handheld. The Atari ‘Retro’ Handheld will cost £34.99 and the Atari Plug & Play Joystick will cost £24.99.

Atari said: “The Atari ‘Retro’ Handheld packs everything that was great about the Atari 2600 into a compact, portable handheld unit with a 2.4 inch colour screen. Sporting the immortalised wood veneer effect of the original console, it has 50 classic games built-in. The Atari Plug & Play Joystick – builds on the original Atari joystick design, with the inclusion of a new arcade-style button on top of the controller to make firing even easier! It features the same 50 games as the handheld – including: Asteroids, Pong, Centipede, Missile Command, Breakout, Millipede & more.”

With retro games very much in vogue right now, both items could make great Christmas gifts for gamers. For more information, head to this website.
