Westworld Mobile Game Shuts Down Following Bethesda Lawsuit

Westworld Mobile developer Behaviour Interactive has revealed that the game is shutting down effective immediately, with the mobile application being removed from both the iOS and Android app stores.

In a statement posted on Twitter, they announced that the game will officially close on April 16th of this year, meaning that if you already own the game, you can keep playing it for a few more months before it goes away for good.

“We are sorry to see the Westworld mobile game go, and had an incredible time creating new content and events for players to enjoy. We deeply appreciate our community’s enthusiasm and participation in the game.”

The problem is that the game was far too similar to Fallout Shelter, which led to litigation from Bethesda, in which the company claimed Westworld Mobile was a “blatant ripoff” of its IP

The lawsuit was filed in June 2018 against Warner Bros. and Behaviour Interactive, and was settled earlier this month, though we are yet to learn the details of the settlement. Clearly, this was one of the terms.

Many gamers enjoyed Westworld Mobile and will be naturally upset to see the game go, considering how well it used its TV show license. Unfortunately, it bit the heels of another highly popular game and action had to be taken. Though, whilst the similarities were certainly glaring enough to constitute a lawsuit, it’s not like Fallout Shelter was the first game of its kind either.
