Those of you subscribed to Xbox Live this month are in for a real treat, as Microsoft’s own Major Nelson has revealed the four Games With Gold for February.
First up is Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, a critically acclaimed love letter to the Castlevania series worked on by ex-developers of the Capcom series. The game was funded via a Kickstarter goal to create a bitesize prequel to the forthcoming ‘Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night’.
With a charming NES art style and clever environment design, you can lose multiple hours to this little gem. Next up, we have Super Bomberman R, the 2018 Bomberman revival developed by Konami. It’s particularly old school this one, but if that’s your bag, and you’re nostalgic for maze madness, this should be right up your street.
The other two games offered are Assassin’s Creed: Rogue and Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. The first is a generally unsung Assassin’s Creed game, worthwhile if you’re a series fanatic but inessential in comparison to the revived titles like Origins and Odyssey.
Jedi Knight Jedi Academy is also a stellar game, but it also came out in 2003 for the original Xbox, so tread with caution. Despite this, it’s easily one of the best Star Wars games ever made, and it still holds up thanks to its complex combat and fun level design.
All in all, it’s a pretty strong selection this month, and well worth the price of admission. If you own an existing subscription, make sure you nab the magnificent Celeste and the legendary Far Cry 2 whilst you still can, before they are dropped at the end of the month.
