In a weekend dominated by Star Wars news, there are still more surprises to talk about. During Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, Oculus revealed the Star Wars VR title they’ve been working on with ILMxLAB & Ninja Theory, known as Vader Immortal.
You can check out the gameplay trailer here, but the gist is that you’re inside Darth Vader’s fortress on Mustafar, trying to survive. Of course, lightsabers are involved at some point, as well as inaccurate stormtroopers. What’s a Star Wars game without cannon fodder?
From the trailer it looks like there will be a lot of cutscenes, and it will figure more like an interactive experience than a fully fledged game. Regardless, there is a lot of talent involved here, and it’s a proper Star Wars game in VR, which will be enough for most fans of the sci-fi series.
Vader Immortal will take place in the gap between Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One, so it’s ripe for some cool cameos too.
Besides, it looks stunning, and with the access to assets provided by Lucasfilm and ILM over at Skywalker Ranch, you know it’s going to be one of the more authentic Star Wars experiences on the market. David S. Goyer is also writing the series, who handled the screenplay for The Dark Knight trilogy!
Vader Immortal will be an episodic series, with the first piece launching at some point in Spring 2019. Let’s hope that deal isn’t altered further so Oculus owners can go up against Vader in Virtual Reality ASAP
