Poor Anthem. It is beginning to feel like it was just put out to die at this point. Between Apex Legends launching just before it, the wrong build being used in the demos and early access, and the smorgasbord of bugs, errors, and crashes, it just hasn’t had a good time. It was even bricking consoles at one point, which is almost impressive it is so bad.
Well, when it rains, it pours. Or, alternatively, when a song is bad, it constantly plays on the radio making you question everyone else’s music tastes…
BioWare have announced that pretty much everything they had planned has been delayed now with no word on when it will actually come to the looter shooter. The rather lengthy list includes the master system, new legendary missions, and extra freeplay events among other things.
The largest omission though is Cataclysm. This is the four-person raid and the first of its kind in the game. All that BioWare has said is that we will find out more about it in May. In a blog posted to r/Anthem they said this “The Cataclysm will bring new challenges and rewards and pushes the story of Anthem forward. As our work continues, we will share more with you in May.”
While this is fine and it kind of makes sense given the state of the game, it is no doubt just rubbing salt in the wound of anyone who has been holding out. It was clear from the very beginning that Anthem had a lot of potential but without the extra content it remains a somewhat empty grind.
After all of the talk of the working conditions at BioWare and the tumultuous situation there from reports from Jason Schreier it is clear that things are amiss at the studio. Balancing the expectations of fans with the health and working conditions must be nearly impossible. You have to feel sorry for those working on it.
