Initially, known as ‘The Avengers Project’ back when it was revealed in 2017, the first trailer showcased by Square Enix came with the hashtag #REASSEMBLE and featured remnants of the main Avengers – Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and Bruce Banner.
It appeared to show the aftermath of a cataclysmic battle – Bruce’s crushed glasses, a severed limb of Iron Man armour – Thor’s Mjolnir and Captain America’s shield were also deserted. It’s a scary scene, made even more resonant if you’ve seen Infinity War and Endgame, both catastrophic events in Marvel canon.
Fortunately for fans who’ve been following the project, you won’t have to wait too much longer until we get our first glimpse on how its shaping up.
The project is now called Marvel’s Avengers and is set for a showcase at E3 2019. The ‘Worldwide Reveal’ will be broadcast during Square Enix Live, the company conference which is taking place at 6 PM PT (1 AM BST) on June 10th, less than two weeks away!
Hopefully, we’ll learn more when the game is debuted out in LA. As of right now, there is really not a lot to go off beyond the pedigree of the developers involved and some job listings which talk about a third person action adventure with online elements.
Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal are the two teams responsible for the project, with previous credits on games like Deus Ex Human Revolution, Shadow and Rise of the Tomb Raider, Thief, Legacy of Kain and many more.
Shaun Escayg, the creative director of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy joined the project in January of 2018, which might help us understand what genre of game Marvel’s Avengers will land on. Truly, it could be anything from a first-person team shooter to a third person co-op multiplayer action adventure. Whatever the weather, we’re sure to find out a bit more when June 10th rolls around. Lets just hope these Avengers can #Reassemble the same level of hype the films had!
