Developer Fatshark has released Winds of Magic, the first expansion for the PC version of Warhammer: Vermintide 2.

It described Winds of Magic thus: “The first expansion for Warhammer: Vermintide 2 brings a brand new enemy faction and new challenges to the game. As a meteor crashes down in the Reikland, the Beastmen rush to the epicenter to claim it as a Herdstone. It is up to the five heroes to stop them before a dreadful disaster strikes the Empire.”

On Winds of Magic’s webpage, the Swedish developer provided further information on the expansion’s key elements. It described the new enemy faction, Beastmen, thus: “As grotesque hybrids of humans and beasts the Beastmen have the intelligence of a man and the cunning of wild animals. These savage warriors embrace Chaos willingly and will show no compassion or nobility. With profound malice for order and reason, these Children of Chaos want to end the world in bloody carnage.”

Winds of Magic also brings a new level entitled Dark Omens, plus a new game mode called Winds of Magic: “The winds of magic are made up of different “weaves” and will be a combination of:

Map: A chunk of an existing adventure map; Wind: The different Winds of Magic will affect and modify the map; Objective: Each map will have a specific objective for players to complete; Finale: If the objective is completed the players will face the final challenge; Difficulty: As players progress the difficulty will increase.”

Plus, Winds of Magic raises the level cap from 25 to 30, and brings new talents, new weapons for all heroes and a new difficulty level entitled Cataclysm. Currently, Winds of Magic is only available on PC; regarding its future arrival on consoles, Fatshark said: “We want to make sure that the console version of Winds of Magic reaches the very same standard as the PC version – for ourselves, but most importantly, for our players. In order to achieve this, we took the decision to take some extra time to make sure console players can enjoy the best possible version of Winds of Magic.”
