Cuphead, the rock-hard bullet hell run-and-gun platformer, is just over two years old, and to celebrate developers Studio MHDR have announced a sale and five days of ‘fun and giveaways’.
As part of the announcement, which includes 20% off the game (and more, on certain independent game retailers), the developers have announced that Cuphead has gone five times platinum, meaning it’s sold over five million copies.
It’s been a busy two years for the first-time developers. From even before launch the game was getting a lot of attention due to its inimitable art style and jazz-filled soundtrack. The first two weeks of the game being on sale saw it hit over a million sales, it’s playable in Tesla cars via USB controllers, and there have been tonnes of patches and updates peppering the last two years.
Studio MDHR aren’t resting on their laurels, however, as they have a whacking great new expansion coming in 2020, titled The Delicious Last Course, which was originally planned for a 2019 release but was pushed back in an effort to make the work-life balance at the company better, something we can all get behind. The Delicious Last Course will contain new lands, new bosses, and a brand new playable character called Ms. Chalice who will change up how you play the game.
There’s even a Netflix animated show in the works, though at this point we don’t have many more details, it is promised to appeal to both children and adults alike.
