Activision has laid out how post-release content will work for the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and as always, they’re not afraid to shake up how they provide new stuff for Call of Duty fans. Instead of content being delivered via a season pass or via loot boxes, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players will be partaking in a battle pass that will allow them to work towards and see in-game content both in a free stream and a premium stream.
In an announcement over on the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare website, Activision detailed what post-release content will look like. Players will work to unlock new weapons and attachments in-game through play, in fact Activision have stated that all gameplay-affecting items or equipment will be earnable by playing the game.
There will be cosmetic items both in the battle pass and the in-game store, but they will not affect game balance in any way. The battle pass will also let players earn COD Points, which will serve as the game’s in-game currency.
In addition to the battle pass announcement, Activision delivered the following reassurances that the game will be more open than any previous Call of Duty, and will let all players play together:
- Introducing crossplay to unite the community across platforms for the first time.
- Removing Season Pass and a la carte DLC multiplayer map packs to ensure everyone can play together.
- Delivering free post-launch multiplayer maps and modes for all players.
- Releasing post-launch multiplayer maps and modes simultaneously on all platforms.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set for an October 25th launch on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
