Halloween lurks around the corner, but there’s no need to be afraid just yet! We’re here with a tonne of gaming news, updates, and announcements from the last two weeks that’ll fill you with excitement instead of fear.
It’s time to dive into the latest news in this week’s Green Man Gaming News Roundup.
Tokyo Game Show 2021
This year’s TGS showed off some of the best and most exciting games to come out of Japan, with new information on Monster Hunter Rise expansions, Final Fantasy spin offs, JRPG sequels, and so much more. Check out everything that happened in our roundups; here’s part one and part two.
Windows 11 Available Early
The next version of Windows is out now and in some areas, it came out almost a day earlier than originally scheduled. If your system is capable of running Windows 11 and meets the requirements for things like TPM 2.0, you can grab it right now and start upgrading to the brand-new version of your operating system. For gaming, there have been some reports of increased performance and other reports of the opposite. That said, Microsoft have made a commitment to gaming with Windows 11, so we’re excited to see where that goes.
Elden Ring Reportedly in Final Stages of Development
Pretty much everyone and their dog is excited about Elden Ring, the next game from legendary developers From Software. It seems that they are on track for the January 21 2022 release date, as an interview with producer Yasuhiro Kitao over on Famitsu stated that the game is in the “final stages of development”. We also heard a few more details about the game itself, such as the wide degree of freedom players will have in facing down challenges. You can check out a translated version of the interview over on the Elden Ring subreddit.
Ghostbusters Game in the Works
It’s been a while since we’ve had a Ghostbusters game and with a new film on the horizon, it feels natural that we’d be getting a new one. It also feels a natural fit for IllFonic, who’ve been a safe set of hands for the Friday the 13th and Predator licences in the past. PCGamesN noticed that Raphael Saadiq – co-founder of IllFonic, songwriter, record producer and singer – mentioned in a recent episode of the Questlove Supreme podcast that a Ghostbusters game was in the works. It’s an hour and twenty seconds in, if you want to scoot right to the busting!
New World Nearly Hits 1 Million Concurrent Players
You can’t launch an MMO without a few teething problems and New World hasn’t managed to avoid them – even with the bulk of Amazon behind the studio. It appears that there’s a good reason for the queues and server issues, in that the game has been hugely popular. Over on SteamDB, the game has hit a peak of 913,634 concurrent players, nearly smashing into a million and making it one of the most popular games on the platform. The question now is, of course, will New World continue its rise to the top of the MMO tree?
World of Warcraft Indirectly Responsible for Ethereum
Finally this week we have a strange origin story for Ethereum, the blockchain that powers Ether and NFTs. It turns out that Vitalik Buterin, the programmer behind it, decided to get into cryptocurrencies because of a realisation over “what horrors centralised services can bring”. The thing that made him come to that epiphany? A nerf Blizzard implemented for World of Warcraft, specifically targeting the damage component for the Warlock spell Siphon Life. It just goes to show that life is extremely strange!
On that ethereal note, we’re off to gather more gaming news for you over the next fortnight. Until then why not head on over to our Community Forum and have your say? We’d love to hear from you.
