We’ve come a long way since the original Call of Duty Zombies experience back on Call of Duty World at War. Back when it all started it was a much more simple affair. Fighting off waves of zombies until you couldn’t. Now, 12 years later and with over 30 Zombies maps, storylines and more. We’re having to deal with Dark Aether portals, massive cyclops zombies and that’s just the start of it. A brand new Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War zombies map is coming this month which is taking players to Vietnam, and it looks insanely good fun.
Firebase Z
The new zombie map for Black Ops Cold War is called Firebase Z and in the recent trailer we got a good look at what it will have in store for us. Continuing the Dark Aether storyline, the trailer shows the Requiem squad in a town in Vietnam that’s being overrun by zombies. They then transport themselves through a portal which brings them to our new map location.
It’s a large military base that looks as though it has seen better days. With tight corridors connecting larger structures and large outdoor spaces Firebase Z looks like a big map. There will no doubt be lots to traverse with a good mixture of high and low ground areas. There also appears to be some kind of Aether generator room on the map, which will no doubt be something interesting or wacky. I’m sure players will be able to find lots of new secrets scattered across the map.
Not only that, players will be treated to some new weaponry. The trailer shows off a new energy-type weapon that shoots something akin to an energy grenade as well as acts as an assault rifle. The Tombstone soda machine also looks to be making a return offering new perks to try out when fighting off the hordes.
Boss Zombies
Quite possibly the most exciting part of the announcement is the reveal of some new zombie types. Alongside your standard rank and file zombies it looks like there will now be the chance for a huge boss-style zombie to spawn – although no details on how or when it will spawn. At the end of the trailer we get a glimpse of a very tall looking cyclops like zombie who appears to shoot some kind of energy beam from its ‘eye’. I’m sure they will be a very fun and not at all terrifying encounter…
We also see something that looks like it has the head of a plague hound but with bigger claws and running on two legs. I really think it’s time people stop messing around with science like this. It just keeps getting worse.
The new Firebase Z map will be available in Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War this week, on the 4th February across all platforms for free. I’m sure there will be more surprises in store for when we get our hands on it, so get ready.
