The Minecraft movie will not now make its originally slated May 2019 release date, following a change of director.
As reported by The Wrap, original director and co-writer Rob McElhenney is no longer involved with Warner Bros’ movie adaptation of Markus ‘Notch’ Persson’s all-conquering game. There is no news as yet regarding who will step in to direct, but Aaron and Adam Nee, who wrote and directed the 2015 indie film Band of Robbers, have been drafted in to write a new script.
The Wrap says that: “An individual with knowledge of the production” confirmed that Minecraft will now not make its original May 2019 release date. Since the original draft of the script was written by McElhenney and Jason Fuchs (whose credits include Wonder Woman), it’s safe to say that the movie will now be undergoing a complete change of direction.
The Lego Movie’s Roy Lee, along with Jill Messick, is still producing the Minecraft movie. As soon as any news regarding a new director emerges, we’ll bring it to you.
