Critics are raving about Resident Evil 2, 20+ years after it first came out. That’s because Capcom have issued the 1998 game with the remake treatment.
The full game drops on January 25th, but Capcom has already put DLC plans in motion before the game hits store shelves. In a celebratory livestream for the Japanese launch of the game, the developers talked about the post-launch support for Resident Evil 2.
One of the most hilarious (and exciting) additions coming to the base game are ‘Leon ‘98’ & ‘Claire 98’ skins that recreate the overtly polygonal models of the two main characters’ 1998 counterparts.
They look devilishly silly, and this will no doubt go hand in hand with the old-school sound effects & score swap exclusive to the Deluxe edition of the game.
On top of the skins, Capcom also touched upon a new mode on the way titled The Ghost Survivors, which, according to GamesRadar’s interpretation, will be a progression-based survival mode with a shop to buy new gear. The release of this mode will be episodic and incorporate side characters from the game like Robert Kendo.
If you’re a Resident Evil fan, there’s a lot of reason to be excited, even after the game drops on Friday. Just make sure you don’t caught by the Tyrant on the way to the shop…
