Gamestop have started up the Splinter Cell rumour engine once again, this time seeming to state that a ‘10th release’ is coming soon. Here’s how this has happened.
The games retailer sells not only games, but t-shirts, memorabilia, and other merchandise. One of the newer pieces that was briefly listed was a replica pair of Sam Fisher’s goggles from Splinter Cell, an item which is now removed from the website but is still visible via Google search.
The description for the goggles states that “For the first time since the introduction of Splinter Cell in 2002, after nine top selling AAA+ titles, and with the 10th release on the horizon, this is your first chance to own Sam Fisher’s signature Ultra High-Frequency Sonar Goggles.”
The key section there, of course, is ‘10th release on the horizon’. This indicates a new Splinter Cell is well on its way, however, there’s some confusion over the number. The issue is that there aren’t nine Splinter Cell games, in fact there’s only seven. Splinter Cell, Pandora Tomorrow, Chaos Theory, Essentials, Double Agent, Conviction, and Blacklist make up the Splinter Cell games so far.
There have been rumblings of Splinter Cell games for a while, with a rumour surfacing in May of a new game, and PC Gamer reporting that a VR version may be coming. However, even if both these projects come to light, that’ll only bring us to nine Splinter Cell games.
Does this mean we may be seeing three Splinter Cell products make their way to us as part of a mass Sam Fisher revival? Or is this just a typo in a removed product? Either way, we’ll be keeping our three green eyes on anything Splinter Cell over the coming months, and report it all to you right here on the Newsroom.
