Gayming Live kicks off with a week of events

Gayming Live, the live event aimed at LGBTQ+ gamers conceived and run by Gayming Magazine, has kicked off with a packed schedule of events running over the period of a week in London’s Soho.

As detailed on Gayming Live’s webpage, the festival will combine a series of diverse events with a number of panels and shows broadcast on Soho Radio. Among the highlights are an exhibition of LGBTQ+ game artists’ work in Gayming Live’s pop-up shop on Great Windmill Street, a preview of Green Man Gaming’s very own Pride Run — culminating in a high-score competition — an LGBTQ+ industry mixer, a careers day in conjunction with Amiqus, a workshop on writing for videogames and two unmissable drag shows.

Tuesday 1 October’s events include the Pride Run preview, running between 4 and 6pm at the Gayming Live pop-up shop, ending with a high-score competition which has a weekend in Berlin as its main prize. That will be followed by an industry mixer and a Gaymers Inc Newbie Night at the Eagle in Vauxhall.

On Wednesday 2 October, Gayming Live will feature a careers day with Amiqus, followed by Ginny Lemon’s 8-bit Drag Show. On Thursday 3 October, a writing for videogames workshop will take place from 1pm, followed by the launch of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.

Saturday 5 October will see Gayming Live’s pop-up shop hosting an event in conjunction with gay dating app Chappy and anti-bullying organisation Ditch the Label entitled: ‘Finding your Player 2’. Chappy co-founder Sam Dumas said: “We are committed to improving the experience for gay men online, especially in the gaming community, which has been identified as a toxic environment for many. Whether you connect with someone before Gayming Live and meet with them at the event or you mutually match during the event itself, gamers can platonically connect with their fellow ‘gaymers’ in a safe, pressure-free environment. This collaboration only puts us one step closer to cultivating a digital universe of safer, more accountable connections.”

Robin Gray, Co-Founder of Gayming Magazine, added: “Gayming Magazine has a key focus on bringing people together — helping people connect with their local gaymer group, and bringing the industry closer to the community through interviews and features on LGBTQ+ companies, developers or other notables. We’re delighted to be working with Chappy on the ‘Find Your Player 2’ initiative, which matches the goals of Gayming Magazine.”
