Amazon are expanding their game studios by adding a new San Diego-based studio led by EverQuest co-creator John Smedley.
A new team will join the studios and be led by Smedley, who was previously president at Sony Online Entertainment and Daybreak Game Company. Although the project is still ‘early days’, the announcement comes as an exciting next venture for Amazon Game Studios as they commented “John’s pioneering work helped define the modern MMO, and his influence can be felt in thousands of games that followed. He helped create the blueprint for fusing massive game worlds with vibrant player communities, a vision that we share at Amazon Game Studios.”
Smedley’s most recent company Pixelmage Games, shut down in 2016, after the release of action role-playing game, Hero’s Song. The Amazon Game Studios are continually growing and have locations in Orange County, California, Seattle and Washington, working on PC titles.
