Tips For Tuning Your Car In Project CARS 2

Now that you have read what Live Track 3.0 has to offer in Project CARS 2, it will come to no surprise that tuning your car is essential. Fine tuning can make all of the difference from shaving valuable seconds off of your lap time to besting your rival. As you would expect, Project CARS 2 has a massive amount of tuning options which some drivers may find a little overwhelming. Fear not, as we have some top tips on how to tune your car to perfection.

Race Engineer Is Ideal For Newcomers

The tuning menus in Project CARS 2  come with a Race Engineer option. This option will give you a helping hand regarding your tuning options and will suggest the best tuning for your car based on some simple questions.

These questions are related to your driving and your perception of the car you want to tune. For example if you are having trouble with breaking in time you can state to the engineer that the car isn’t stopping in time before a corner, the engineer will then tune your breaks accordingly for you. The same can be applied to every aspect of the car including gears, wheels, suspension and more.

This is a great opportunity for players to learn how the car tuning works, as you are able to observe the adjustments that the engineer makes. This is the perfect way for newcomers to learn how the tuning options work so at some point, they will be able to tune cars without the Racing Engineers help.

Don’t Stick With The Default Gear Ratios

In a nutshell, gear ratios determine how quickly your car moves up through the gear box. The shorter the ratio is the faster your acceleration which helps with tracks that are riddled with tight corners. Likewise if a track has a lot of straights, you are more likely to prioritise your top speed over your acceleration meaning you want to assign longer gear ratios for your car.

With this in mind we suggest that you should change your gear ratios based on the track you are going to race on. We do suggest experimenting with gear ratios though as the general make up of your car and driving skill will also need to be considered. A couple of practise runs should help you come up with the perfect formula.

The Best Way To Approach Rallycross

You will soon find out that rallycross is a very different driving discipline compared to the other race types available to you in Project CARS 2. As rallycross is so different it requires a different type of tuning set-up altogether.

We suggest adjusting the resting hight of your cars suspension, so much so that your cars centre of gravity is as low as possible. This will make your car more responsive when turning corners as there is a high frequency of turns. This also helps with drifting which you will be doing a lot of in this game mode.

You should also consider adjusting your dampers as well. Go into the dampers menu and firm up the bump stop setting on both the front and the back. This will lessen the risk of bottoming the car out.

As well as the suspension we also suggest setting your rear tyres slightly higher than your front ones, this will help when drifting around corners, as the down force on the car will be more exaggerated on the front than rear, this leaves the rear wheels to focus on getting the car back to speed.

Manually Choose Your Tyres

The easiest way to get extra performance for your car is be selecting the correct tyres. Players are able to choose from slick, wet, ice and all terrain tyres, so make sure you choose the right tyres you need for the track you are racing on.

This may sound self explanatory but wet tyres are perfect for the rain whilst slick are great for dry tracks. You can then select the hardness of your tyre, once you work out what hardness of tyre works with what track you will have the extra performance you will need.

Bare in mind that the softer the tyre, the more grip you will have. This is great and all, but soft tyres tend to wear down easier. This means that in longer races you will be driving into the pits more frequently.

Hopefully this crash course in car tuning in Project CARS 2 will help you get the performance boost you need in races. You can pre-purchase the game from us right here.
