Each year the Fifa franchise tries to shake things up with new technologies that aim to take the gameplay to the next level. This year is no different with Hypermotion being the leading improvement coming to Fifa 22. But what exactly is Hypermotion and how does it change your Fifa experience?
Hypermotion Technology
EA have been using Xsens suits for motion capture from 22 professional footballers playing at a high-intensity for the first time. This has allowed them to capture an unprecedented volume of high-quality human movements. They’re also using machine learning to write new animations in real time to help create the most organic football. The Xsens suits have recorded every touch, tackle, pass, shot, sprint and more to power over 4000 new animations in Fifa 22.
ML – Flow machine learning algorithm allows for the ability to write animations in real-time meaning players will adjust their stride and running cadence on approach to the ball in order to better control or strike it.
Attack and Defend
More tactical AI has been created with the help of next-gen consoles allowing the AI to better understand attacking and defensive formations. In attack, make up to 6x more decisions per second giving attackers more awareness of their surroundings. Whereas the defensive AI has been rewritten to enable them to act as a tactical unit retaining their shape as they move across the football pitch.
Battles and Ball Control
Enhanced interaction between two players syncs player animations created a greater level of realism and responsiveness as they fight for control over the ball or being first to the ball. Defenders and attackers will jostle, push and pull as they fight to keep hold of the ball.
Longer two-touch animations make controlling the ball feel more fluid and natural than it has ever felt in a Fifa game before. Bring down aerial balls with more technique, enjoy greater strength when shielding from opponents and enjoy more agility when trapping ground balls.
Powered by the advanced match capture, players will experience new off the ball animations, and better ambient player interactions and behaviours to help bring your match day to life. You will see players talking to each other, pointing and directing each other based on the actions taking place during the game.
Who gets Hypermotion?
Fifa 22 Hypermotion will only be available on next-generation consoles including the Xbox One S/X, PS5 and Stadia. Which means that PC players and last-gen gamers won’t get the benefit of the new and enhanced systems.
EA have stated that the reason for Fifa 22 Hypermotion PC version being omitted is because of the gap in technology across the PC market. EA found that many rigs were upto 9 years old meaning that developing and running the technology on those machines wouldn’t be possible. No doubt, this will be disappointing to hear as it means the only way to experience Hypermotion will be on the latest consoles.
Fifa 22 with its new Hypermotion technology will be released on the 28th September.
