Fallout at 25: Looking back at Fallout: A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game

October 10, 2022, marks 25 years since the original Fallout: A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game was released. The fact that the Fallout series has survived 25 long, tough years is a testament to the siren song of its world and ideas. Through reinvention the series has been able to stick around, even if relatively few have stepped into the barren world of its earlier incarnations.

The series has come a long way, baby, and has transformed into something entirely different to the pen & paper-led hex-based RPGs that formed its earlier years. Those changes have come alongside colossal growth, becoming a juggernaut franchise whose name is on the lips of nearly every gamer, something those first games could only dream of. 25 years is a long time for anyone but for game series it’s nearly an epoch. By changing into something new, Fallout has been able to stay current and fresh – something many of its counterparts were unable to do.

Let’s head back to that first wasteland, back to the days of the late 90s, and peer at Fallout’s beginnings.

Fallout – A New Wasteland

junktown from fallout 1, one of the most memorable locations

Post apocalyptic settings aren’t unusual in media and Fallout itself is a direct homage to the earlier Wasteland, a game that didn’t see a sequel until 2014. Considered the spiritual successor to Wasteland, Fallout looked to explore a brand new setting using GURPS, or the Generic Universal RolePlaying System. After a fallout between Interplay and Steve Jackson Games, the Fallout team decided to create their own system, named SPECIAL after each of the attributes available to the player.

All of that, however, would mean little if the setting, story, and world of Fallout didn’t inspire the player. Thankfully the Fallout team were able to smash together one of the most compelling game settings that has ever been created – this isn’t your normal wasteland you’re exploring, it’s something far greater.

Fallout walks a narrow tightrope between tones at all times. It’s got a very sober story about exploring the apocalypse, hunting down a way for your people to survive, and discovering the fledgling societies that are beginning to populate the wasteland. But that’s not all you get. In addition to the seriousness there’s a levity to it – something that’s expanded upon in future instalments – but that lightness is still part of the series even from the first game.

The world of this future isn’t like ours, nuclear technology took over and many modern inventions never appeared making it both futuristic and impossibly anachronistic. It combines scorched buildings, jagged and broken remnants of the past, with barely-held-together constructions that our post-apocalyptic descendants are cobbling together. This immediately sets the game apart from everything else out there, even today. This vision of the future is a hodgepodge of different influences from cyberpunk to art deco, making it feel both unreal and more real than many other depictions. After all, our own world doesn’t have a unifying art style either.

Fallout looked and felt unlike any of its peers, but that wouldn’t make it a classic unless it had something else too.

Role Playing in the Apocalypse

the vault dweller is deploying a bit of overkill

The original Fallout is an isometric hex-based role playing game with turn based combat.

That word salad aside, what makes Fallout incredibly special and still gives it a colossal amount of replay value is the breadth of choice available to the player at any given time. From the moment you start character creation to the very last quest in the game, you’ll undoubtedly go on your adventure, not someone else’s. This is a true role playing game, you craft a role and then you inhabit it in this world dreamed up for you.

Your mission is to bring back a working water chip to save your people still in their underground bunker from death. How you do this, and how you approach the huge amount of side quests, depends on your character, your playstyle, and you. You might go in guns blazing to many encounters or you could stealth by picking a door lock. Your character might have a silver tongue, getting what they want without combat, or they might be a bruiser who struggles to get words out.

What makes how Fallout plays so utterly unique is that everything is, with a bit of work, valid. There are few truly useless skills, if any at all, meaning you can approach problems the way you choose. There’s no-one telling you how to play, it’s up to you to find out how you want to play.

Of course that’s not to say the game doesn’t definitely reward you for choosing certain options, having no combat skills at all would certainly make the game far more difficult, but it’s possible and that’s what counts.

Fallout in 2022

it's bob's iguana bits, a shop that sells iguana bits. just iguana bits.

One of the issues in gaming in 2022 is that of short-sightedness. A certain unwillingness to look back past a few years and see the glittering jewels gaming’s legacy has bequeathed to us. A game like Fallout that came out before many gamers were even born may seem an impossibly distant thing.

Thankfully, and though I hate to use this awful phrase, it still holds up. Coming in just before the 3D graphics boom in the late 90s, Fallout manages to have a truly unique art style that still looks as good today as it did then. There are keyboard shortcuts for nearly everything, a ton of options to lower (or raise) difficulty, and almost everything the modern gamer has come to expect. Fallout remains eminently playable even now, 25 years after its release.

So if you haven’t played Fallout before and you have any interest in role playing games, I implore you. Give it a shot. This is a game that is robust, full of fascinating writing and ideas, and will give you an adventure that will stay with you forever.

Marauders Early Access First Impressions

There are two ways to approach a game like Marauders. You can jump in with pals, guns blazing, lighting up rooms with a torrent of bullets. Or you can take it a little slower, play solo, and experience the feeling of your heart trying to claw its way out of your chest.

Marauders can be a riotous blast or it can be one of the most tense gaming experiences you’ve ever played. Here’s our impressions after playing a little of the Early Access release.

Hunting and Being Hunted

hey a target range to practice in

In Marauders you play a, you guessed it, Marauder. You’re out there hunting and scavenging for the supplies you need in order to level up, complete missions, trade for items, and generally become stronger.

The catch is that many other players are also doing the same and chances are they’re faster than you, better than you, and often more organised than you. Marauders is a game where you’re going to die – a lot. You’re hunting them for their loot, they’re hunting you for yours. It’s the circle of life but instead of lions you’ve got bullets.

Each level is split up into three parts. The first will see you on your spaceship approaching a base, the second places you on that base for a bit of scavenging and killing, the third puts you back on your spaceship to make your escape.

During each of these phases you can be attacked or can go on the offensive. When in space you’ll see other ships approaching the same base you are, it’s possible to smash their defences or even board their ships to take their loot before the mission even begins, but it’s on foot where the meat of the game takes place.

Each dieselpunk level is full of AI enemies and the occasional other human who are all out for one thing – your blood. Every kill is a chance for some great loot and a bit of XP. At the very least a kill means one threat removed.

Achieve your goals and make it back to your spaceship and you’ll be back into space, heading for an exit location. Fail, and your corpse is left to be looted – losing you everything you had on you. Ouch.

When it works it’s absolutely compelling stuff. Playing solo can be utterly tense, each corner might mean your death or wealth beyond measure. When in a group, things get a little more chaotic as you work together to strip a level of its goodies. The feeling of getting in, getting a few kills, gathering a bit of loot, then escaping is a high many games chase and few succeed at. By having a real risk of loss the game makes every action impactful and every tiny bit of loot a victory.

Diesel Powered

space often isn't lonely enough

What helps it all tie together is the feel of the game, it’s a grimy, gritty world and the sound design and visuals all pour that feeling into you. It’s a universe where diesel fumes permeate every single moment as you sneak around half-disassembled mechanical creations and trade damage over mining equipment. At times it can feel like you’re lost in a giant Kwik-Fit, engine oil and all.

The guns play into this theme too. Maybe slick, smooth, well-crafted guns exist somewhere in it but so far I’ve only encountered ramshackle creations that perfectly fit with its theme. This is an alternate universe 1990s where the Great War didn’t end, even with a sci-fi backdrop you’re dealing with gun-oil coated weapons that can be moments away from breakdown. The gunplay feels exactly how you would want it to, every bullet feels powerful both when you shoot and when you’ve been shot.

The Exquisite Feeling of Failure

a nice machine

As mentioned above, Marauders is a game where you’ll be dying. A stray bullet, an enemy sneaking up behind you, an unseen opponent ransacking your ship. Death hits hard and hits often and when you die everything you were holding is gone.

What makes this something to be treasured rather than despised is how it forces you to adapt. From your loadout to how you play, the threat of loss is always with you, so you choose to play in a way that will offset that as best you can.

Maybe you want to tool up, big armour and your best guns – get them before they get you. Maybe you decide you just want to take a pistol and a bag to try and make the sting of death a little easier to bear. Maybe you have a good start to a mission and decide to head home with what you’ve got instead of risking it all. Maybe you become a stealth expert. Maybe, maybe, maybe.

It’s this threat, omnipresent and at times stifling, that’s the making of Marauders. It makes you evaluate every action, trying to anticipate both the game and other players. You are going to die in this game – that’s a given – but it’s how you approach the prospect of that death that will determine how much you get from the game.

What’s Next for Marauders?

marauders roadmap

There’s plenty incoming for Marauders, including new weapons, attachments, cosmetics, and more. The team over at Small Impact Games have shown off their Early Access Roadmap – take a look above – so you can see how much they’re planning to pack into the game.

A few technical issues aside (this is Early Access, after all), Marauders is shaping up to be something special, and a game that I’ll be keeping my eye on throughout the upcoming months to see how it develops.

All Confirmed Overwatch 2 Characters – Updated 30/09/2022

Very much like Overwatch before it, Overwatch 2 characters look set to define Blizzard’s first-person hero shooter sequel perhaps more so than any other aspect of its design. Certainly, the character roster looks set to be generously stuffed full with a varied range of all manner of new characters and familiar, returning faces to fill out its varied cast of esoteric heroes and antiheroes. Though Overwatch 2 is still many months, if not a couple of years out from release at this point and many new characters are yet to be officially announced, we are nonetheless already starting to put together an impression of how the character roster is shaping up.

Who Can We Expect To See?

it's a set of characters

Given the tremendous amount of tweaking, balancing and overall development that each of the characters in the first Overwatch went through over the years, it would be a shame to not see all of that hard work brought forward into Overwatch 2. As such, I can happily report that every single one of the characters from Overwatch will join the Overwatch 2 cast of characters, though it’s also likely that some of these characters will see varying levels of rework in Overwatch 2 to keep things balanced with the new additions to the roster. In keeping everything warmly familiar, much like the first game, the characters essentially fall into one of three distinct class types – Tank, Support and DPS. So without further ado, these are the characters that you can expect to see and the classes that they will inhabit as things currently stand.

Overwatch 2 Tank Characters

reinhardt reinhardts

The reliable bulwark of any decent Overwatch team worth its salt, the Overwatch 2 tank characters are all about re-focusing the damage output of the opposition away from the more vulnerable support and DPS characters on their team, using their high health and defensive abilities to soak up all of that damage themselves instead. A crucial part of any Overwatch 2 team and providing the key to victory in any battle, these are the eight Overwatch 2 tank characters that have been revealed so far.

  • D.Va
  • Doomfist
  • Junker Queen
  • Orisa
  • Reinhardt
  • Roadhog
  • Sigma
  • Winston
  • Wrecking Ball
  • Zarya

Overwatch 2 Support Characters

sojourn slides

With their range of buff and debuff abilities, the Overwatch 2 support characters are very often the unsung heroes of any given battle. Able to bolster both the offensive and defensive capabilities of their team, in addition to providing a whole heap of much needed healing goodness while also downgrading the effectiveness of characters on the opposing team, here are the seven Overwatch 2 support characters that have been unveiled as of right now.

  • Ana
  • Baptiste
  • Brigitte
  • Kiriko
  • Lucio
  • Mercy
  • Moira
  • Zenyatta

Overwatch 2 DPS Characters

that's sombra

Front and center of every team and arguably the most popular of all the classes in Overwatch 2, DPS (Damage Per Second) characters do exactly what it says on the tin – they get out there and provide an overwhelming amount of damage to the enemy until victory is achieved. Wielding everything from deadly katana blades through to wild west style six-shooters, plasma cannons and just about anything else you can think of in between, these are the seventeen DPS characters that form the bulk of Overwatch 2’s character roster.

  • Ashe
  • Bastion
  • Echo
  • Genji
  • Hanzo
  • Junkrat
  • McCree
  • Mei
  • Phara
  • Reaper
  • Sojourn
  • Soldier: 76
  • Sombra
  • Symmetra
  • Torbjorn
  • Tracer
  • Widowmaker

Introducing Sojourn

it's sojourn

Revealed alongside the announcement of Overwatch 2 all the way back in November 2019, Sojourn is a former Overwatch captain that has augmented her body with all manner of cybernetic upgrades to make her a more than formidable presence on the battlefield. Hailing from Canada, Sojourn’s main weapon of choice is an energy based repeater cannon with alternate fire modes that allow her to switch between a high damage single shot and a stream of automatic laser fire.

Beyond her primary weapon, Sojourn’s cybernetic enhancements come into play with a robotic arm that seemingly conjures an orb-like projectile that inflicts a devastating amount of AoE (Area of Effect) damage on her enemies, not to mention rocket boosted legs that allow her to slide along the ground and launch herself into the air at such speed that the lads in Vanquish would likely blush themselves into an early grave. Though neither her class or ultimate ability has been officially confirmed yet, certainly based on what we know so far it seems a pretty safe bet that Sojourn will join Overwatch 2’s increasingly crowded group of damage dealing heroes.

Introducing Junker Queen

Announced as part of 2022’s Xbox and Bethesda showcase, Junker Queen is the second all-new character to be introduced into Overwatch 2 – and she’s bringing some meaty tank action to the table.

Eagle-eyed fans will have seen her before in a poster in Junkertown. Now, we’re going to be able to play as her when she makes her way from Junkertown’s Thunderdome-adjacent combat arena to the main roster of heroes included in Overwatch 2. We don’t know much yet – gameplay details will be revealed later, but we do know her hefty axe will be making mincemeat of the opposition.

Introducing Kiriko

Kiriko from Overwatch 2

Kiriko is the latest hero added to the Overwatch 2 roster and is on the face of is a Support character. That said, Kiriko’s able to deal tons of critical damage when aiming correctly making them much more a hybrid than they first appear.

This ninja-healer can climb walls, send out Healing Ofuda that will home in on friendly targets to heal them, toss out throwing knives, teleport, and make their teammates invulnerable for a brief duration. This Protection Suzu effect also clears most negative effects, making it both useful for your team and intensely frustrating for the opposing team.

Her ultimate is Kitsune Rush where she summons a fox spirit that runs ahead, increasing movement speed, attack speed, and reducing cooldowns for any allies that follow its path.

How Many New Characters Are In Overwatch 2?

some characters, yesterday

As we’re likely many months, if not a good couple years away from the Overwatch 2 release date, Activision-Blizzard has only been able to show us just one new character that wasn’t in the first game – namely the aforementioned cybernetic warrior known as Sojourn.

However, as we inch closer to the release of Overwatch 2, we can probably expect the number of new characters in Overwatch 2 to steadily increase though not necessarily overtake the number of returning characters that will be featured in Overwatch 2. Likewise, we should also expect that additional new characters will be released in the months and years after the release of Overwatch 2, in a similar fashion to how new characters were added to the first Overwatch in a post-launch capacity.

Which Characters Are In The Overwatch 2 Beta?

overwatch 2 characters look on

In its current state, the Overwatch 2 beta not only allows players full access to the thirty-two returning heroes from the first Overwatch, but also Overwatch 2 newcomer Sojourn as well. Further afield, Activision-Blizzard has also hinted that as well as new modes, maps, balance tweaks and features being added to the Overwatch 2 beta, players could also see entirely new characters being implemented as the Overwatch 2 release date starts to come into focus.

Given that the number of Overwatch 2 tank and support characters are smaller combined than the number of DPS characters on the roster, it seems likely that Activision-Blizzard would want to bolster those two categories a little more rather than just stuffing an already filled to the brim DPS class with yet more characters of that same discipline. Here’s hoping at least.

Everything You Need To Know About Scorn – Updated 30/09/2022

Scorn is the type of video game that if you were to merely see screenshots or even a trailer of it you might not exactly know what you were looking at. Knowing that this will be the case for a great many folks, we’ve put together this guide that explains just what Scorn is, the Scorn release date and a whole lot more besides.

What Sort Of Video Game Is Scorn?

scorn gameplay

Based on what we know so far about Scorn, we know that the Ebb Software developed effort is a first-person horror adventure that has players wandering around a series of H.R. Giger inspired hellscapes as they seek to escape what amounts to a very squishy, very grotesque prison where everything bleeds and screams all the time.

Though Scorn does include a fair amount of first-person shooter action with various stomach churning firearms, ammo is limited and the game imposes not just conundrums upon the player to be solved, but other gameplay styles too such as the need to avoid confrontation. Perhaps the most surprising thing about Scorn, other than its palpably gross aesthetic, is that the game features absolutely no cutscenes whatsoever with the narrative instead being told from within the game itself. Oh and the protagonist has no skin either, so that’s nice to know.

Scorn Release Date – When And Where Can I Play Scorn?

scorn release date

In a move as unusual as its artstyle, Scorn’s release date has been pulled forward. Instead of releasing on the 21st of October, 2022 Scorn will be coming to you on October the 14th, 2022.

Scorn will be getting a full release on PC via Steam, while console versions of Scorn currently remain exclusive to the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles – though that certainly doesn’t rule out Scorn coming to PlayStation 5 at some point in the future. So, if you happen to own a reasonably good PC (see more on that below) or either one of the Xbox Series consoles, you’re good to get yourself a whole heap of meaty and squishy weird with Scorn.

Scorn Weapons – How Do The Weapons In Scorn Work?

scorn guns and weapons

Despite looking like a fever dream marriage of H.R. Giger and Zdzisław Beksiński’s most visually arresting works, Scorn does nevertheless feature a good selection of weapons that players can use to put down the various horrors that are looking to do, well, horrible things to you.

The first weapon that we know of is essentially a DOOM style single-barreled shotgun, albeit one that looks like a handheld spinal cord with a firing mechanism and which literally snaps in half, with internal organs exposed and all each time you reload it.

Another weapon that has been revealed is a massive, pulsating horror-fossil that basically shoots out a tongue which harpoons the face of the enemy, before allowing you to stomp them off – leaving a horribly destroyed prone form as a result.

Finally, Scorn would also appear to have a grenade launcher of sorts in its horrific arsenal, though the actual launcher itself seems to be embedded in what appears to be a chassis made of bone with heart style valves protruding from the top. Because of course it does.

Scorn’s Visual Influences – What Makes Scorn Look So Unique?

scorn and h.r. giger

Serbian developer Ebb Software will be first to tell you that Scorn is heavily inspired by the grimly surrealist works of Swiss artist H.R. Giger and Polish dystopian painter Zdzisław Beksiński. From the uncomfortably crunchy, squishy gore and mist-filled world that looks like it could exist in the Alien universe, through to weapons that snap and squelch with uncomfortable aplomb during use and the enemies themselves that either lack a face entirely or resemble horrendously massive, shambling phalluses, Scorn’s visual style is delightfully horrible and possibly sleep murdering stuff.

Scorn On Kickstarter – How Did Scorn Begin Development?

scorn kickstarter

Long before its (re)emergence in 2020, developer Ebb Software originally went down the crowdfunding route for Scorn in a bid to get the game made on their own terms. Intended to be released in two parts, the first Kickstarter effort for Scorn failed to secure the necessary level of funding in December 2014. After gaining private investment in 2015 and then embarking on a successful second Kickstarter campaign in 2017, Scorn would ditch its previously mooted two part release strategy in favour of a unified game that would be quietly locked in development before being fully revealed in 2020 for PC and Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S platforms.

Scorn System Requirements – Can My PC Run Scorn?

scorn system requirements

Despite looking like something of an odd duck to put it mildly from an aesthetic standpoint, Scorn nonetheless boasts a wealth of technically accomplished visuals that encompass all manner of sophisticated lighting, shadow and other such effects to make it stand confidently alongside other contemporary offerings. With that in mind, can your PC run Scorn? To answer that question, we have you covered below with the Scorn minimum and recommended PC system requirements which seem rather reasonable to say the least.

Scorn: Minimum PC System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 7, 8, 10 64 bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i3-2100 / AMD FX-6300
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM

  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: 50 GB available space
  • Sound Card: Windows-compatible audio device

Scorn Recommended PC System Requirements:

  • Processor: Intel Core i5-2500 / AMD FX-8350
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 / AMD Radeon R9 290

Scorn Trailer – Where Can I Watch The Latest Scorn Trailer?

With Scorn’s release window of October 2022 rapidly approaching, we have yet to be graced with a new trailer in recent months, other than a super short ‘release window teaser’ that does little to entertain or inform. However, arguably the best trailer for Scorn is one that Microsoft released as part of Scorn’s original announcement all the way back in October 2020, showcasing Scorn’s remarkably detailed (and grim) H.R. Giger inspired environments, nightmarish monsters and even more horrific weapons. Fancy it? Well, you can catch the Scorn gameplay walkthrough trailer above.

Scorn Interview

We managed to sit down with Kepler Interactive to have a brief word about Scorn, what to expect, and why we should be excited. But enough from us, here’s Scorn in their words:

In your own words, what is Scorn about?

“Scorn aims to throw gamers into a nightmarish world that they need to discover and try to understand who they are and what is that world they find themselves in.”

What’s gameplay going to look like for Scorn ?

Players will be exploring multiple maze-like regions filled with weird puzzles to solve and various abominations to avoid. It also includes specific first-person shooting elements where players will use biomechanical weapons to fight off enemies.”

What can you tell us about the story for Scorn?

“As previously mentioned, it is up to players how they will understand the story of Scorn. The environment speaks about the world, encounters give hints about the character, and players’ imagination might (or not) compile it to the individual experience to be discussed and shared further.”

Did you encounter any challenges when developing Scorn? How did you get around them?

“There were so many challenges during Scorn’s development. That’s why the development lasted for so long and had to be restarted multiple times. We wanted to go into each and every detail of the world to enhance players’ immersion, and since the world of Scorn has no reference to our real world, it was very hard to hit the final outcome. The other thing is that we have quite a few artistic perfectionists on the team.”

What aspect of Scorn are you most excited for players to experience?

“It’s a tough question. Scorn is an unusual horror experience. It is also an artistic experience. There is philosophy beneath it too. So, we are looking forward to how players will digest it as a whole.”

Everything You Need To Know About A Plague Tale: Requiem

Hoping to learn more about A Plague Tale: Requiem? You’ve come to the right place. Following on from 2019’s critically acclaimed A Plague Tale: Innocence, a grim tale set during plague-ridden 14th century Medieval France, Asobo Studio and Focus Home interactive are back with a direct sequel. Playing as Amicia and Hugo de Rune once more, the time for innocence has passed and Requiem explores what happens next.

With the family searching for a new home in the far south, so begins a new tale of survival. This time around, we’re swapping the war-torn scenery for more vibrant settings on the French coast, leaving Aquitaine behind. It’s a more colourful sequel but make no mistake, A Plague Tale: Requiem should be just as emotional as its predecessor. With over a month until launch, you might be wondering what we’re in for this time around. Here’s everything we know about A Plague Tale: Requiem.

A Plague Tale: Requiem – Release Date and Platforms

what's the release date for a plague tale requiem

Asobo Studio’s upcoming sequel launches on October 18, 2022, arriving on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch (via cloud streaming). Costing £43.99 on PC and £49.99 on consoles, Requiem’s also coming to Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass subscription. That’s available day one for PC, consoles, and cloud.

Unlike Innocence, Requiem’s skipping the PS4 and Xbox One, which isn’t too surprising since we’re now two years into the current console generation. That said, anyone subscribed to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate can access the cloud version through your Xbox One, providing you’ve got a strong internet connection. Mileage will vary but it’s a potential workaround.

A Plague Tale: Requiem – Gameplay and Setting

how's it play?

Taking us to 14th century Medieval France, Requiem sees the return of Amicia de Rune and her brother Hugo, six months after Innocence. Searching for a new home in Southern France, we’re joined by their mother Béatrice and young alchemist friend Lucas but unfortunately, Hugo’s powers have returned. Seeking a cure for Hugo’s blood disease, we’ll need to avoid Inquisition soldiers and plague infested rat hordes. All while grappling with the emotional trauma of killing to survive.

A Plague Tale: Requiem’s gameplay doesn’t deviate far from Innocence, retaining that same action-adventure stealth gameplay in  third-person. Amicia needs to avoid hostile encounters where possible but unlike Innocence’s instant kills, she doesn’t die after one enemy hit and can return to stealth if spotted. Armed with several weapons, those range between knives to crossbows, which pierce armoured foes. Some locations have tar, used to increase light and set foes ablaze.

Unsurprisingly, Requiem places heavy emphasis on these infested rats. Using his connection to the plague, Hugo can now manipulate these hordes to his advantage, either for solving puzzles or killing enemies. He’s also got an Echo ability that lets him see enemies through walls, a handy tool when in stealth. Like before, rats fear well-lit locations, but should you stray towards the darkness, they’ll soon attack our brother-sister duo.

A Plague Tale: Requiem – Cast

who's in the cast

So far, we’ve only had a handful of cast members confirmed for A Plague Tale: Requiem. Returning from A Plague Tale: Innocence, Charlotte Burney and Logan Hannan are back as Amicia de Rune and Hugo de Rune, respectively. Lucy Briggs-Owen joins the cast as their mother, Béatrice de Rune, alongside Kit Connor as Lucas. Otherwise, much of A Plague Tale: Requiem’s cast remains a mystery. It’s unknown if Sean Bean’s returning as the narrator but we’ll keep this updated once we know.

A Plague Tale: Requiem – Trailer

We first learned about A Plague Tale: Requiem back at E3 2021, thanks to a first look reveal trailer during the Xbox Games Showcase. Giving us a brief look at Requiem, it sets the scene well, and you can see this trailer in full below:

Since then, we’ve had a few closer looks at Requiem. Following a gameplay reveal trailer at The Game Awards 2021, it later appeared during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2022. Most recently, Focus Home Interactive released an extended gameplay trailer back in June. This sequence sees Amicia and Hugo through a quarry, trying to avoid soldiers looking to capture the duo. Lasting for 12 minutes, you can also watch this below:

A Plague Tale: Requiem – System Requirements

system requirements?

Naturally, you won’t need to worry about system requirements if you’re playing A Plague Tale: Requiem on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, or the Nintendo Switch cloud-version. But if you’re on PC and need to know A Plague Tale: Requiem’s minimum and recommended PC requirements, unfortunately, there’s bad news. Focus Home Entertainment hasn’t confirmed this right now.

As a game only running natively on current-gen consoles, we’d speculate you’ll need a mid-range setup to get A Plague Tale: Requiem working on PC. During a Requiem preview, Asobo specifically talked up the new generation allowing them to render “more than 300,000” rats at once. With just a month left until launch, we’d hope for news soon, so we’ll keep this updated as we learn more.

Check out A Plague Tale: Requiem on our Store

If you need a little more plague in your life (though after the last couple of years, we would forgive some trepidation), then head over to our store and check out A Plague Tale: Requiem at a price you’ll love to see.

Everything you need to know about Forspoken

If you want to learn everything you need to know about Forspoken, and we mean the stuff beyond the reaction to that trailer, then we’ve got you covered. We’re going to be going over the Forspoken release date, trailer, gameplay, and cast, so that you leave here today imbued with so much knowledge that you stop and talk to random people on the street to tell them about the game.

That’s a heavy burden to bear, but you know what you’re getting into now, so buckle up.

What is Forspoken?

what is it?

Forspoken puts you in the shoes of Frey Holland, someone who’s been randomly isekai’d into the world of Athia, and has to come to terms with the fact that this isn’t the world they know, and also that they can do magic now.

If you’re looking forward to this story of might, magic, and sarcasm, then you’re about to learn when you can drop into Athia yourself and get to the fighting. Also, there’s parkour, which is usually good fun too.

Forspoken Release date

release date!

While Forspoken was initially meant to be coming out fairly soon, it’s now been delayed until January 24, 2023. This was apparently due to “ongoing discussions with key partners,” and was mostly for polish more than anything else. The reason itself is an odd one, but we imagine it’s due to feedback being that it simply needs more time in the game dev oven, or just to move out of the way of an incredibly stacked end of 2022. Seriously, you’re going to be constantly barraged with huge games for the next few months. Prepare yourself.

Forspoken trailer

There are a few big old trailers around at the moment, so we’ve opted to go for one from the end of August that shows off ten minutes of gameplay. This is the best chance for you to get an accurate idea of what you’ll be doing in the game, along with how it’ll look. It’s hard to judge how things actually feel from watching a trailer, but there’s definitely a focus on style and fluidity here that resembles something you might see in a Devil May Cry game.

If you’re looking for the trailer that was so bad that people couldn’t stop pooping on it, then you’ll simply need to follow this link to the tweet. The general tone of this particular trailer is what got a lot of people talking, along with the Marvel-esque dialogue and sass. It definitely got people talking though, so we’d say it’s actually pretty effective marketing.

Forspoken Gameplay

gameplay from forspoken

From what we’ve seen, gameplay is going to put a huge focus on fluid movements and acrobatics. We’re assuming that means that there will be a lot of dodge timing involved, and then waiting for the opportune moment to unleash some of the incredibly cool spells that Frey has at their disposal.

There will also be a lot of the standard RPG bits and bobs that you’d expect, like upgrading different skills and spells, searching for loot, and crafting too. Probably the most standout part of the game, in terms of being unique at least, is that you’ll be able to paint Frey’s nails with different patterns to make more powerful spells. We’re not sure if there will be different patterns for different spells, but it’s a cool idea.

Because this is an open-world game, there will also be towers to find that’ll help you reveal key points you should be heading to for story purposes or for upgrades. You’ll also be talking to your magical Cuff throughout the game, but hopefully that won’t end up being really annoying or anything.

Forspoken Cast

who's in the cast?

We’re taking this straight for IMDB, so blame them if this is all wrong. The cast looks to be fairly solid so far, with a few recognisable names mixed in with ones you may not have heard of before.

  • Frey Holland – Ella Balninska
  • Cuff – Jonathan Cake
  • Tanta Sila – Janina Gavankar
  • Johedy – Keale Settle
  • Auden – Monica Barbaro
  • Tanta Prav – Pollyanna McIntosh
  • Lisa – Michel C. Bonilla
  • Tanta Cinta – Kendal Rae

As we don’t know a huge amount about the story, we’re not sure who most of these characters are, but hey, that’s all part of the mystery, and so ends everything you need to know about Forspoken.

Everything you need to know about Redfall

Everything you need to know about Redfall is right here, right now. More or less anyway, time is funny on the internet so if the game’s already out when you’re reading this, it’s probably not all-encompassing, but we’re not Gods here at GMG, despite how we look, so you’ll have to forgive our lack of omnipotence.

Nevertheless, we’re here today to tell you more about the Redfall release date, Redfall gameplay, and show some Redfall trailers too. So, if you’re down bad for Arkane in general and don’t think vampires suck, then you’re likely going to be in for a treat when Redfall finally graces us with its presence.

When is the Redfall Release Date?

release date? release date

While Redfall was meant to release in 2022, that’s no longer the case. Instead, the only information we have about the new release date is that it’ll be during the first half of 2023. Normally, we’d assume any game listed as 2023 would come before April, because it helps make the financial year look good, but given that this specifically says the first half, it seems likely that there’s some uncertainty around how long the game will take to finish.

While all games are complicated, Arkane games have a reputation for being particularly involved, with their immersive sims often offering incredible deep content that can be approached from multiple angles and with many outcomes. While Redfall isn’t an immersive sim, it does go one further by including multiplayer, so we’re not surprised the game’s taking a while to perfect.

Redfall Gameplay – How Will it Play?

how does redfall play

Redfall’s gameplay will have you playing as one of four different characters, each with their own skills and abilities, and making your way through a vampire-infested island. Jacob Boyer plays the role of a sniper, Remy De La Rosa is an engineer with a helpful robot, Devinder Crousley is a cryptid expert who seems to use a lot of tools like a lightning staff, and Layla Ellison is telekinetic.

While the enemies are undoubtedly meant to be stronger than you, you’ll be able to utilise a plethora of different items and weapons to burn them back to death. You’ll need to work together with the other characters to get through each of the areas, and will have to work using stealth and tactics to survive.

There’s undoubtedly an air of Left 4 Dead in the gameplay reveal trailer, so we’re expecting the campaign itself to be repeatable and replete with challenges, collectables, and reasons to replay it. Arkane also loves their special endings, so it’s possible you’ll need to do things in a specific order or complete hidden objectives to get the most out of the game.

Where can I watch a Redfall Trailer?

This is the 2022 showcase from the Xbox and Bethesda trailer, and it’s a fairly good look at what you can expect when playing Redfall. It shows off just over five minutes of footage, with some being identifiable as gameplay, although it’s fair to assume that things will change a lot between this trailer and when the game actually releases.

It also seems to show some more supernatural aspects to the world, with magical doors and warped scenery being all over the place. Arkane loves a bit of mind-bending level design, so we’re not all that shocked about this. There’s also a brief glimpse at what appears to be a talent tree along with an inventory management screen.

This means you’ll have a fair bit of control over how your character plays beyond just choosing which character you want. That always helps with a game’s longevity, and depending on how easy it is to adjust, could also mean you can build your character to compliment whatever style of team is needed for any given challenge.

The Best Characters in Triangle Strategy

Before we start looking at the best characters in Triangle Strategy it’s worth covering a couple of caveats. The first is that there are no truly bad units in this game, every single character has their place and a skilled tactician can use them to great effect.

The second caveat is that we’re not telling you to ditch your preferred team in favour of these characters. You have your own playstyle, you have your own strategies. You may just prefer some characters because you prefer them, you don’t need a reason. Don’t let us, or anyone, tell you that you’re playing Triangle Strategy wrong. You do you.

That said, if you’re finding things a little tough or want to know which characters can give you a boost in battles, we can help you. Here’s our thoughts on the best characters in Triangle Strategy.

The Best Characters in Triangle Strategy

check out the best characters in triangle strategy

Each of these characters can help you achieve victory in the many battles in Triangle Strategy. Some of these may be harder to get than others but if you’re looking for top-tier fighters, here’s where you’ll find them.

Serenoa

our main character, serenoa

Rejoice, Triangle Strategy beginners. The first character you get is one of the finest swordsmen in the entire game. With high strength and swiftness Serenoa can hold his own in the front line throughout the game. Pair him with a mage and max out his Under Conviction’s Banner attack to ensure your magic users never run out of TP.

Anna

hello anna

Sometimes you need to go in fast and Anna fulfils that need perfectly. This stealthy, rogue-like character can nip into the shadows to hide from enemies and with two actions per turn, you’ll be able to harry and cripple opponents with ease. Anna can make enemies fall asleep, throw poison knives, or simply act as a diversion. However you use her, once you get her in Chapter Two you’ll probably never stop taking her with you.

Maxwell

maxwell house

It takes a long time to get Maxwell and you’ll need a lot of Morality and Liberty in order to get him, but once you do grab this warrior you’ll never look back. Able to lay down huge amounts of damage combined with brilliant mobility on the battlefield, Maxwell is a late addition but a worthy one to the team. Even better, should they die once they read Elite class, Maxwell will revive once per fight. Now that’s power.

Frederica

it's frederica

Whilst Serenoa fills the role of swordsman in the narrative and on the battlefield, Frederica is the perfect example of a mage. Her spells are powerful but the main selling point with Frederica is the ability to regain TP whenever she kills an enemy. Combine that with Serenoa’s TP-refilling ultimate and you’ve created a monster. What have you done.

Avlora

avlora, one of the best characters in triangle strategy

The most difficult character to get should be the most powerful, that only seems fair. So if you’re pursuing the Golden Route and you hit Chapter 17 you should get access to Avlora, the absolutely most powerful unit in the game. She’s powerful enough by default but her strength only rises as her health becomes damaged, meaning she’s even stronger should the odds be against her. It’ll take a lot to recruit her but she’s far and away the best character in Triangle Strategy.

Everything you need to know about Octopath Traveler 2

Surprise announcements are rare these days, so the announcement at the September 13 Nintendo Direct of Octopath Traveler 2 was something special. No-one was expecting it and not only did we get the announcement, we got to see a huge slice of gameplay.

The original game came out all the way back in 2018 and stunned audiences with a beautiful art style and a truly unique battle system. Now, Octopath Traveler 2 is set to do it all over again, taking the series to new heights. Here’s what you need to know.

Octopath Traveler 2 Release Date and Platforms

here's when you can play octopath traveler 2

As the game was announced during a Nintendo Direct you won’t be at all surprised to learn that the game will be coming to Nintendo Switch. It’ll also be coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC – the latter of which is why we’re writing about it on a PC gaming blog.

You won’t have too long to wait to get your hands on it either, as the release date is currently set for 24 February, 2023. Given that reports are already coming in of the game’s near completion, we’re hopeful that we’ll be playing Octopath Traveler 2 early next year.

What’s new in Octopath Traveler 2?

answer: lots of things

Octopath Traveler 2 looks set to expand upon everything that made the original so special. This time we’re off to the land of Solistia, two continents separated by a sea. Eight new travelers will be joining the adventure, each with new origins, motivations, and unique skills unlike anything seen before in the series.

The sequel will preserve much of the original whilst refining systems and giving players entirely new options to define how they play and where they go. The Break and Boost system will be back for battles, as well as the ability to develop your travelers’ however you choose. You’ll also be able to sail the seas, exploring a huge world that changes with a full day/night cycle.

The original game’s graphics were much lauded at launch and the sequel will refine the iconic HD-2D style. By fusing together pixel art and 3D scenes, it promises to be a feast for the eyes that surpasses the original.

Everything You Need To Know About New Tales From The Borderlands

New Tales from the Borderlands is the Tales from the Borderlands successor that many thought (including me) we would never see. Happy to be proven wrong, this new instalment is now very much a real thing and with that comes a whole host of questions, such as what is the release date, how does it play, what platforms can I play it on and so much more besides. Luckily, our handy guide lets you know all the key details about the game and then some. To the vault!

What Is The New Tales From The Borderlands Release Date And What Platforms Can I Play It On?

release date and platforms, essential info

The New Tales from the Borderlands release date has been confirmed as October 21, 2022. On this date, The game will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC platforms.

The PC version of New Tales from the Borderlands will be available for purchase on both Steam and the Epic Games Store. Essentially, if you own any gaming console or halfway decent PC rig from the last five years or so, you’ll be able to get stuck into it with ease.

Is New Tales From The Borderlands Basically Tales From The Borderlands 2?

well, is it?

New Tales from the Borderlands isn’t really Tales from the Borderlands 2. To be clear, it would appear to be more of a spiritual successor to 2014’s superb Tales from the Borderlands, rather than a direct continuation.

Seemingly more of an anthological entry (as hinted at by the ‘new’ part of its prefix), the game not only takes place on the totally different planet of Promethea, but it also boasts an all-new cast of characters to boot too. Naturally, this also means that you need not have completed Tales from the Borderlands in order to get stuck into the new game. Great stuff.

Will New Tales From The Borderlands Be Episodic?

an episodic adventure

Yes, this will follow the same episodic format that Tales from the Borderlands embraced. However, instead of forcing players to wait months between the release of each episode, every episode will arrive all at once in a single great lump when it releases for basically every major contemporary gaming platform on October 21, 2022.

What Is The Story And Setting?

gotta have a story and also a setting

Taking place on the chaotic and sprawling metropolis planet of Promethea, New Tales from the Borderlands puts players in the raggedy boots of a trio of lovable loser protagonists – Anu, Fran and Octavio as they attempt to navigate what is shaping up to be the worst day of their lives.

With a massive planetary invasion taking place and unscrupulous mega corporations seeking to suck the planet dry, not to mention a supremely efficient assassin bots, guns that speak and oddly empathetic bandits, it looks set to weave a frequently hilarious story about lovable losers getting tangled up in situations far above their collective station.

Who Are The Main Characters In New Tales From The Borderlands?

characters characters everywhere

As hinted at above, the main characters are Anu, Fran and Octavio, a lovable bunch of underdogs looking to make their fortune in a world where pretty much everything and everyone wants to see them put firmly six feet under.

Dr. Anuradha Dhar (or just Anu to her mates), is a good natured and peace loving scientist looking to use her knowledge to improve the lives of everybody but finds herself frequently stymied by panic attacks.

Content to leave all the nerdy stuff to his sister, Anu’s brother Octavio is a street-smart hacker and self-aggrandising hype machine who wants to make his mark in a world that largely wants nothing to do with him.

Driven into a now self-sustaining, incandescent rage at the destruction of her restaurant business, the furious but still charming Fran is looking for any sort of score to make herself whole again and if that means raising a middle finger to the establishment, then all the better. Boasting much more than just a bubbly/furious personality, Fran also has a handy hoverchair that encompasses all manner of tools and weapons to allow her to address just about any scrape she might find herself in.

Can Players Pursue A Branching Narrative?

it's all about the narrative in new tales from the borderlands

It most certainly does. Echoing the design of Tales from the Borderlands before it, New Tales from the Borderlands prides itself on offering players a wide swathe of choices to make as they progress through an entirely non-linear narrative with multiple endings. From branching dialogue trees to even branching event trees that can send the narrative down different avenues depending on the choices made, this game is certainly all about that non-linear storytelling and thus boasts a veritable vault load of replayability as a result.

Will Quick-Time Events Feature?

it's qte time

Quick-Time Events or QTEs as they’re more commonly known will feature in New Tales from the Borderlands, but the implementation of them is a little different to what you might expect. While a fair chunk of QTE sequences, such as failing to avoid a gunshot, will certainly result in a fail state that ends the game, there is also a sizable number of other QTEs that if failed, merely send the narrative down a different route; providing a whole heap of extra replayability beyond an initial playthrough as a result. Brilliantly, players can also tweak the difficulty of the QTEs as well, either making the sequences shorter (harder) or longer (easier), depending on how you like your QTEs cooked.

What Pre-order Bonuses Are Available?

pre order bonuses for new tales from the borderlands

Anyone who pre-orders not only scoops up a pile of in-game credits and unique cosmetics for Anu, Octavio and Fran, but also a fancy in-game collectible item too. In addition to all those goodies, folks who purchase the Deluxe Edition will also receive the still-brilliant Tales from the Borderlands chucked in there for free as well. Lovely.

Everything You Need To Know About Marvel’s Midnight Suns

Marvel’s Midnight Suns hands the keys of its superhero powered characters and storylines over to strategy genre geniuses Firaxis Games, resulting in not just one of the most eye-opening Marvel licensed games in years, but also one that potentially opens the floodgates for more gamers to get involved with the strategy genre at large.

From the Marvel’s Midnight Suns release date, all the way through to the Marvel’s Midnight Suns gameplay details, destination platforms, latest trailers and more, we’ve got everything you need to know about Marvel’s Midnight Suns right here.

What Is Marvel’s Midnight Suns Release Date And What Platforms Can I Play It On?

release date and platforms

The Marvel’s Midnight Suns release date has been confirmed as December 2, 2022. Marvel’s Midnight Suns will release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC platforms.

In regards to the PC version, players can purchase and play Marvel’s Midnight Suns via Steam or the Epic Games Store, depending on their preference. Elsewhere, the Marvel’s Midnight Suns release date for PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch platforms has slipped sometime into 2023, with a firm release date still yet to be given by publisher 2K.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns – What’s The Story?

what's the story in midnight suns?

Developed by Firaxis Games, Marvel’s Midnight Suns blends RPG elements, turn-based combat and deck building mechanics to create a wholly unique effort that is loosely based on the Marvel Midnight Sons comic series which ran from December 1993 through to August 1994. Envisioning a much darker setting than the sort which the Marvel property usually deals in, Marvel’s Midnight Suns tells the story of the brilliantly named Hydra scientist Doctor Faustus who uses dark magic and occult rituals to summon the Mother of Demons, Lilith to wreak havoc on the Earth.

To prevent this calamity from coming to pass, Marvel’s Midnight Suns casts players as the Hunter, an entirely unique Marvel superhero conceived for Midnight Suns. Teaming up with notable Marvel superheroes such as Spider-Man, Wolverine, Captain America, Iron Man, Doctor Strange and more, the Hunter and their new group of super-powered friends must face down the threat of Lilith and her band of fallen enforcers which include established Marvel super-villains Venom, Red Hulk and more.

Where Can I Watch The Latest Trailers For Marvel’s Midnight Suns?

A cursory glance at the interwebs will quickly reveal that there is in fact no shortage of trailers for Marvel’s Midnight Suns. Though a variety of deep dive trailers for each of the superheroes that features in Marvel’s Midnight Suns exists, the most recent trailer for the game is the ‘live among legends’ gameplay trailer which provides a handily succinct overview of both the premise and gameplay beats that players can expect to grips with later this year.

Beyond the aforementioned overview trailer, it’s also worth making mention of another recently released trailer too. Focusing exclusively on the Hunter, the entirely unique character created for Marvel’s Midnight Suns, this footage goes into great depth on Marvel’s latest superhero. Specifically, the trailer not only takes a look at how Hunter fits into the narrative of Marvel’s Midnight Suns at large, but also how this new deadly protagonist performs on the battlefield too. You can feast your eyes on the Hunter gameplay showcase for Marvel’s Midnight Suns below.

How Do The Turn-Based And Card Battle Elements Work?

card based combat!

Though Marvel’s Midnight Suns and the XCOM series share a turn-based strategy mechanism, it’s really there that the similarities end, as Marvel’s Midnight Suns leverages cards that must be drawn from a randomly shuffled pool each turn, rather than a fixed set of actions to choose from. The cards that you’ll use in Marvel’s Midnight Suns not only boast the expected defensive and offensive commands, in addition to the usual smattering of support functions such as healing, protection and so on, but some will also allow players to unleash special abilities that are unique to the superhero that is currently in use.

Whether that’s Wolverine’s berserker rage or Iron Man’s repulsor blast, the card system that Firaxis has employed here not only provides a fresh layer strategy to the proceedings, but also serves to reinforce the uniqueness of each superhero too. In another pair of sizable departures from the XCOM games, not only is character movement no longer locked to a grid-based system in Marvel’s Midnight Suns, but the whole chance-to-hit mechanic has also been done away with. Certainly the latter makes a great deal of sense considering we’re talking about superheroes with superhuman abilities here, rather than Private Dippy Dave and his paltry chance to hit a target thirty metres away with a pop-gun.

RPG And Hub Elements – How Do They Work?

it's got rpg and hub elements you know

Rather than just a series of turn-based battles interlinked by hub base bits, Marvel’s Midnight Suns makes the most of the characters and evocative setting of its comic book source material. When you’re not scrapping with Lilith and her not-so band of merry folks you’ll be kicking back at the Abbey, which on a surface level at least us Marvel’s Midnight Suns take on the base that you would have in the XCOM games.

Much like the turn-based combat seen elsewhere however, Marvel’s Midnight Suns couldn’t otherwise be more different in this regard if it tried. Not only is the Abbey a fully explorable environment that provides a means for players to manage their various cards, get stuck into a bit of crafting and change their costumes, it also offers up an opportunity for the Hunter to engage in some dialogue tree driven chatter with other Marvel superheroes that are lurking around the place, not only improving (or potentially worsening) your relationship with those characters, but also allowing you to gain some crucial lore into the bargain.

Which Marvel Superheroes Feature?

what characters are in the game?

Pulling from the width and breadth of Marvel Comics and including the likes of Blade and Captain America, through to lesser known Marvel luminaries such as Sister Grimm and Magik, there are no less than twelve playable Marvel Superheroes that will feature in Marvel’s Midnight Suns at launch. The full list of playable Marvel superheroes that feature in Marvel’s Midnight Suns on day one is as follows:

  • Blade
  • Captain America (Steve Rogers)
  • Captain Marvel
  • Doctor Strange
  • Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes)
  • Iron Man
  • Magik
  • Scarlet Witch
  • Sister Grimm
  • Spider-Man (Peter Parker)
  • The Hunter
  • Wolverine

Which Is The Best Uncharted Game?

Ever since Nathan Drake leapt, punched, shot and stole his way into our hearts all the way back in November 2007 with the PS3 action adventure Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, developer Naughty Dog has gone the extra mile with each subsequent installment in the series, expanding the sprawling ambition of the Uncharted games while maintaining the essence of the treasure hunting, action platforming beats and compelling characters that made the first game so essential in the first place. Out of the entire Uncharted franchise then, which spans some fifteen years and multiple consoles, which is the best Uncharted game? Well, we’ve got the answer to that very question right here. Please note though – spoilers do follow, so be aware.

So What Is The Best Uncharted Game Then?

The best Uncharted game in the opinion of this humble scribe is Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. An entirely fresh entry in the series that was built from the ground up for the now humble PS4 all the way back in 2015, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is a proper globetrotting, treasure hunting adventure without equal. With sky-high stakes that reach far back into the past of the Drake family and establish their troubled upbringing all the way through to the current day, we see the pair form new friendships and alliances as they attempt to track down the lost treasure locked within a forgotten pirate city. Quite simply, Uncharted 4 presents a charming, spectacle-stuffed action adventure that effortlessly sits at the apex of the entire series.

A Massive Globetrotting Odyssey With Unparalleled Eye-Opening Sweep And Spectacle

Though the Uncharted games have long prided themselves on providing players with a wealth of breathtaking locales for wannabe treasure hunters to lose themselves in, Uncharted 4 goes a step further and then some. From long lost catacombs hidden underneath the snow-dappled peaks of the Scottish Highlands to a long forgotten pirate city in deepest Madagascar, a sprawling Panamanian prison and even the aristocratic heights of an exclusive antique auction for the super-rich on the picturesque Italian coast, Uncharted 4 is a true globe-trotting odyssey with sweep and spectacle that is simply without peer in the Uncharted franchise.

The Introduction Of Nadine Ross

Even though Nathan Drake is certainly recognised as the leading man of the Uncharted franchise, developer Naughty Dog has always done sterling work in introducing new and compelling characters to the series that can ably stand on their own two feet. Falling directly into this hallowed category is Nadine Ross. Making her debut in Uncharted 4, Nadine Ross first appears as an archvillain-adjacent, hard-nosed mercenary with a thing for putting her foot in Nathan Drake’s rear end, but it isn’t long before a series of betrayals take place and Nadine finds herself doubting those initial allegiances. With a pair of iron fists that are only equalled by her acerbic wit, Nadine Ross rapidly became a fan favourite character and played an effective yin to the yang of Chloe Frazier in the superb series spin-off, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.

Some Of The Best Set Pieces Ever Seen In An Action Adventure

Another defining aspect of the Uncharted series that arguably aids in fashioning its Hollywood adjacent veneer is the penchant for high-octane and spectacular set pieces that have long separated it from its genre peers. With Uncharted 4, developer Naughty Dog has completely outdone themselves here. From a breathtaking jeep and bike chase through multiple Madagascan villages that results in the sort of screen-filling chaos that one would normally associate with a Michael Bay flick, through to an action-packed sword fight in the rapidly burning hull of a pirate ship hold filled with treasure, Uncharted 4 looks and plays every bit like a Hollywood action movie on steroids and I for one, am absolutely here for all of it.

An Emotional Look At The Past, Present And Future Of The Drake Family

Essentially bookending the adventures of Nathan Drake as far as we currently know them, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, gives players a deep dive into Nathan Drake’s formative years and more importantly the various scrapes, adventures, trials and tribulations that Nathan got into with his brother, the equally roguish and mercurial Sam Drake. As well as beautifully fleshing out Nathan Drake’s past, Uncharted 4 boasts a post-game coda that gives players a glimpse at the future of the Drake family in a beautifully low-key playable sequence. Certainly, it’s a neat epilogue of sorts that potentially serves to set up a range of different directions that the series could take moving forward.

A Much Needed Humanising Of Nathan And Elena

As was the case in many of the previous Uncharted games, the relationship dynamic that exists between Nathan Drake and Elena once again takes center stage in Uncharted 4, but this time they feel much more like a real couple then they arguably ever have. Though Nathan Drake and Elena both find themselves swept up in all manner of skirmishes and scrapes, Uncharted 4 makes sure to take plenty of time to show the pair during their more slice of life moments. From managing businesses, to enjoying a meal together to even playing a competitive game of Crash Bandicoot, Uncharted 4 makes the mundane feel worthwhile as it shows that there is much more to our lovable protagonists than just shooting dudes in the face, stealing treasure and escaping death by the skin of their teeth. More of this please, Naughty Dog.

What’s The Best Way To Play The Best Uncharted Game?

No longer purely exclusive to Sony’s beloved last generation console, Naughty Dog have since remastered and released Uncharted 4 as part of the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection for PS5 and PC – the latter of which is arriving this October. Included alongside Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which coincidentally is the runner up for the best Uncharted game, Uncharted 4 gets the royal remaster treatment with full 3D audio, practically instantaneous load times and an array of visual presets which allow players to choose from a native 4K resolution presentation running at 30 frames per second, a performance mode that locks in at 1440p resolution at 60 frames per second and finally, a 120 frames per second visual preset that runs at 1080p resolution for lucky owners of HDMI 2.1 compliant displays. Quite simply, these visual options all serve a common purpose to underscore the incredible environments, highly detailed character models and evocative Hollywood spectacle that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has perfected.

Even among its peers, Marauders boasts something of a unique setting. In the alternate 1990s timeline of Marauders, the Great War of 1914 never ended, resulting in mankind essentially mining and industrialising the Earth to within an inch of its life. With Earth rapidly becoming uninhabitable, people are looking to the stars to make their fortune and it’s here that the titular Marauders look to make their mark, seeking out precious salvage in the many derelict hulks that are drifting throughout space all the while trying to avoid being murdered at the hands of others looking to do the same in a dark, diesel-punk universe.

How To Play Marauders – How Does The Game Work?

taking a tactical view

As mentioned previously, Marauders is a first-person multiplayer looter shooter that has players battling it out to scrounge up as much salvage and loot as possible before attempting to escape with their lives. Like most things in life however, Marauders is a little more sophisticated than that. Essentially split into two sections, when you’re not romping around abandoned galactic husks scavenging everything in sight, filling your enemies with lead and stealing their loot, you’ll be flying around the cosmos in your fully upgradeable ship, forever on the lookout for bigger and more bountiful sites to loot.

How Do The On-Foot Sections Play?

Arguably the bread and butter of Marauders, you’ll be spending much of your time stalking the various dark and foreboding corridors of Marauders’ many abandoned ships, ruins and even asteroids as you seek to scoop up as much precious loot as possible in order to turn a healthy profit. When it comes to the face-shooting side of things Marauders doesn’t disappoint, funnelling wannabe space pirates down suitably gloomy corridors and other such areas as they attempt to nab as much loot as possible all the while engaging other Marauders and ensuring that they don’t end up going six feet under as a result.

It’s a supremely taut experience that is enhanced by the fact that developer Small Impact Games has fully implemented accurate bullet simulation into the game, too. This means that every shot counts and the emphasis is more on patience and strategising, rather than just charging in and trying to blast anything that moves.

How Do The Spaceship Sections Work?

When you’re not shooting faces and generally robbing just about everything in sight, you’ll be piloting your ship from a third-person perspective as you attempt to escape to the safety of any of the nearby warp gates so you can get the heck outta dodge. Getting to one of these gates though won’t be easy, because not only will you find opposing space pirate folks trying to blast you and your ship into a fine red mist, but some of these scoundrels will also attempt to board your ship with a vague hope of murdering everyone within and making off with your painstakingly earned loot. Luckily, not only can you pilot your ship around the cosmos, but you can also have friendly Marauders take up gunnery positions on your ship in a bid to see off potential galactic robbers, while a wide variety of craftable weapons enables players to bolster their ships yet further still to even the playing field.

How Do You Craft Weapons And Items?

As well scooping up a whole heap of valuables that can then be sold on for a hefty chunk of change, Marauders also allows players to collect all manner of materials and components which can in turn be crafted to fashion new weapons and items. Specifically, Marauders allows players to craft all sorts of armour types, firearms, melee weapons, weapon attachments, useful items such as bags, bandages and even sizable weapons to be bolted onto the side of Marauders variety of space bound vessels. In short, if you have a crafting itch, Marauders looks set to scratch it.

Can Marauders Be Played Solo Or Is It Multiplayer Only?

hey it's some people. probably marauders I guess

Whether you’re something of a lone wolf or a social butterfly, Marauders absolutely has you covered. From day one Marauders allows players to go at it alone in solo, or band together with up to three other like-minded space pirates as you loot, shoot and raid your way across the dieselpunk cosmos.

Marauders Game System Requirements – Can My PC Run Marauders?

creepy room to be honest

With its highly detailed character models, environments, lighting and shadow effects, it’s fair to say that Marauders needs something of a relatively beefy rig to perform at its best. With that in mind we’ve got both the minimum and recommended PC system requirements for Marauders below.

Minimum PC System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-4570 running at 3.2 GHz or AMD Ryzen 3 1300X running at 3.4 GHz
  • Memory: 12 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 with 2GB RAM or AMD R9 280x with 3GB RAM
  • Sound Card: Windows-compatible audio device that is at least DirectX 9 compatible.

Recommended PC System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10 64 bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-8400 running at 2.8 GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 2600 running at 3.6 GHz
  • Memory: 12 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 7 1070 with 8GB VRAM or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT with 8GB VRAM
  • Sound Card: Windows-compatible audio device that is at least DirectX 9 compatible.

Will Marauders Be Coming To Console?

a spaceship hangs in the darkness

Currently, Marauders is only set to release on PC with no PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X or Nintendo Switch version of the game confirmed as of this writing. However, given Team 17’s history of establishing a broad multi-platform portfolio for many of its previously published games, we wouldn’t be surprised at all to see a console release announcement within twelve months of the PC release. A matter of ‘when’, rather than ‘if’ is the way of things I’d say.

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection – The Story so Far

The Uncharted series is one of the most popular and famous game series ever created. The adventures of Nathan Drake are examples of how to do cinematic gaming, filled with stunning locations, exhilarating plot beats, and characters that feel real. It also helps that they’re cracking third person shooters too, with the action ramping up dramatically over the course of the games.

For the first time Uncharted will be coming to PC in the shape of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection. This bundles together Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, showing off Uncharted at its absolute best.

But what if you haven’t played the previous games? Fear not, we shall get you up to speed on the Uncharted storyline so you’re ready to jump into Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves armed with knowledge.

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune

bad times with jungles

The first game in the series introduced us to treasure-hunter Nathan Drake, reporter Elena Fisher, and Nate’s mentor Victor “Sully” Sullivan as they hunt for a treasure related to Sir Francis Drake. They discover the coffin of Sir Francis Drake which contains his diary, including the location of the mythical city of gold: El Dorado.

On a mysterious island they find that they were wrong, El Dorado was never a city; it was a golden idol. This island is covered in Spanish ruins and the remnants of a Nazi expedition. As they race to find the idol before a criminal gang does, they discover a dark truth. The idol is cursed, causing mutated undead Spaniards and Nazis to attack both Nate and his enemies.

As they attempt to flee, the criminal gang attempt to take the idol from the island in order to sell it as a bioweapon. Nate is eventually able to defeat the gang, dropping the idol into the sea to never be seen again. Able to finally escape, Nate, Sully, and Elena all bond as they depart the island with a few chests filled with treasure.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

bad times with trains

Now this is where Uncharted steps up a gear. The game’s roster is packed out with former associates of Nate, Harry Flynn and Chloe Frazer. They team up to steal a Mongolian oil lamp connected to legendary explorer Marco Polo, however, when in the midst of the heist, Flynn betrays Nate leading to his arrest.

Some months later Chloe and Sully help Nate escape and reveal that Flynn has been working for a war criminal named Zoran Lazarević. The lamp contained a map to the lost city of Shambhala, a place Lazarević is heading to in order to locate the legendary Cintamani Stone.

Chasing through Nepal, picking up Nate’s now ex-girlfriend Elena Fisher on the way, and fighting off the monstrous guardians of Shambhala, they manage to corner Lazarević in the city. There they find that the Cintamani Stone is actually the sap from the tree of life which has the ability to grant power to whomever drinks it. Despite Lazarević imbibing the sap and becoming more than human, Nate is able to defeat him. With Shambhala crumbling around them, Nate, Chloe, and Elena all make their escape. The game ends with a hint at a reunion for the estranged Nate and Elena.

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception

bad times with planes

Set two years after Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, this installment in the series splits some of the narrative between the current day and 20 years hence, showing how Nate met Sully in the first place and how he got Sir Frances Drake’s ring.

In the present, Nate and Sully team up with new character Charlie Cutter to hunt down a mysterious figure named Katherine Marlowe who had been interested in buying the ring from Nate. With the help of Chloe Frazer, they trace Marlowe to an underground library where they receive a map that helps them locate two halves of an amulet, though Marlowe and her associate Talbot manage to steal one half of it.

Their journey takes them to Yemen where Elena Fisher pops up, now Nate’s wife, though they have recently gone their separate ways. Nate is captured first by Marlow and Talbot and then after escaping captured once again by a pirate working with them by the name of Rameses. Aboard Rameses ship, Nate manages to escape yet again, but sinks the ship, killing Rameses.

Back in Yemen Nate sneaks aboard a cargo plane, but destroys it before falling out and having to parachute down to the desert. Nate does not have a great deal of luck in this game, truth be told.

Rescued by a Bedouin troup led by a man named Salim, Nate is reunited with Sully and together they follow Marlowe into the city of Ubar, where legend has it King Solomon imprisoned a Djinn. When there, Nate drinks from a fountain and begins to suffer terrible hallucinations, with the entire city’s water supply being tainted. Nate manages to stop Marlowe’s plans to steal the hallucinogenic vessel at the heart of the city, causing the city to collapse. Marlowe falls into a sinkhole, taking Drake’s ring with her, with Salim coming to the rescue of Nate and Sully.

The game ends with a reunited Nate, Sully, and Elena, with yet another hint at a reconciliation between Nate and his spouse.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss

uncharted: golden abyss

Though released fourth, this PS Vita game serves as a prequel to the entire series with Nathan Drake and old friend Jason Dante investigating a poisonous secret behind the city of Quivira, one of the mysterious Seven Cities of Gold.

Their adventure takes them across Panama as they look for the Golden Abyss, a gold-lined cavern that holds treasure beyond imagination. Once there they find that the gold has become irradiated due to nearby uranium deposits, a poison which killed the inhabitants of Quivira. Dante at the end betrays Nate but ends up sealed in the Golden Abyss, trapped forever. Nathan Drake makes his escape along with Sully and new friend Marisa Chase, deciding to keep the Golden Abyss secret for all time.

Gotham Knights Characters – Meet the Family

Gotham Knights is taking us to somewhere we’ve never been before: a Gotham without Batman. The dark knight himself has died meaning that Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood have stepped up to be the thin caped line that stops the city from falling into chaos.

Superhero games depend on their characters and in Gotham Knights this is even more true, as you have four playable characters to inhabit as well as multiple foes on whom to bring the beat-down. We’ve compiled a list of all the currently known Gotham Knights characters, read on to meet the Bat-family.

Gotham Knights Characters List

Batgirl (Barbara Gordon)

hey that's batgirl

Tech genius, acrobat, and expert sleuth – if there’s a fitting person to take over for Batman in terms of skills then Batgirl is it. The daughter of James Gordon, she’s been an aid to the caped crusader many times over, first as Batgirl, then as Oracle, and finally as Batgirl once more.

Robin (Tim Drake)

we couldn't mention gotham knights characters without mentioning robin

Tim Drake is the most recent incarnation of Robin and is the youngest of the four Gotham Knights characters. Unlike other Robins, Tim Drake discovered Batman’s identity on his own and wasn’t an orphan – at least, at the start of his story.

Red Hood (Jason Todd)

jason todd is a bit rough sometimes but he's got a good heart

Ah Jason Todd. He’s had a rough old time of it, first as a street punk, then as a rebellious version of Robin, then killed by the Joker in a brutal storyline, before returning from beyond the grave thanks to Ra’s al Ghul’s intervention. Since then he’s used the Red Hood persona, crossing the line between antagonist and hero many times.

Nightwing (Dick Grayson)

nightwing, not showing butt for once

The original Robin eventually grew up and separated himself from Batman by becoming Nightwing. Mostly associated with the city of Bludhaven, he still pops across to Gotham to help out when he’s needed. With the death of Batman, Nightwing has never been needed more.

Alfred Pennyworth

alfred pennyworth is probably pretty sad huh

The butler to Bruce Wayne, he acted as a father figure, mentor, and often doctor to the world’s greatest detective. Defined by his relationship with the Waynes, it’s yet to be seen how he’ll react in a world without Batman.

Renee Montoya

renee montoya, here as the question

It’s fair to say that the Gotham Police Department isn’t the most competent on the planet and in fact are known to take a few bribes here and there. Not Renee Montaya. Created for the legendary Batman: The Animated Series, she’s one of the few honest cops left and has even joined the heroes’ side as one incarnation of The Question.

Mr. Freeze (Victor Fries)

mr freeze you tragic monster

Once used as a punchline, Mr. Freeze eventually became something more with a tragic backstory involving him searching for a cure for his wife. His role in Gotham Knights is one of antagonist, though with Mr. Freeze there’s usually something more going on.

Harley Quinn (Harleen Quinzel)

harley quinn will be a boss fight at some point

Former prison psychiatrist, Harley Quinn eventually chucked that all in after being manipulated by the Joker. There’s no mention of the Joker appearing in Gotham Knights and with Harley Quinn operating more on her own in recent years, it seems she doesn’t need the clown prince of crime anymore.

Penguin (Oswald Cobblepot)

penguin, one of they key gotham knights characters

Normally entirely a villain, the Penguin appears to be playing a bit of a different role in Gotham Knights. He seems to be offering help to the heroes, something which is definitely out of character for this tuxedo-clad mobster. Though, as with Mr. Freeze, there’s usually something going on – we’ll have to wait to see if he’s playing both sides.

Clayface

beautiful clayface

There are many different backstories for Clayface and a few different alter egos, at the moment we don’t know which Clayface we’ll be facing off against in Gotham Knights. But one thing remains the same, this malleable monster is one of Batman’s most deadly foes and will be a handful and a half for the Gotham Knights.

The Court of Owls

a court of owls bloke

One of the more recent inventions in the Batman universe, they are a shadowy cabal who have been entwined with Gotham since its founding. These bird-faced crimesters have their fingers in everything and are sure to be behind much of what’s afflicting Gotham this time around.

Batman (Bruce Wayne) – Deceased

it's bruce wayne, I hear he's batman

Oh Batman, how little we knew ye. Well actually we knew him pretty well since he’s one of, if not the, most famous superheroes ever. In Gotham Knights he’s unfortunately departed this mortal coil. Will he make a return as he is wont to do? We’ll have to see.

Commissioner Gordon – Deceased

jim gordon, ah well

Joining Batman in the beyond is James Gordon, the honourable cop at the head of the GCPD. Without the twin heads of Batman and Commissioner Gordon keeping crime at bay, it’s no wonder that Gotham has gone a bit wrong in their absence.

The Best Meta Quest 2 Games

The Oculus Quest 2, now known as the Meta Quest 2, is a fantastic bit of kit that has managed to bring completely wireless, room scale virtual reality to players around the world at a wallet friendly price.

Generously awash with all manner of experiences, apps and games, we’ve made this definitive guide which outlines the best Oculus Quest 2/Meta Quest 2 games that you can get right now.

Beat Saber

beat saber, one of the best games - never mind best meta quest 2 games

One of the most singularly enjoyable games on any VR platform, Beat Saber has long been recognised as one of the best Meta Quest 2 games that money can buy and for good reason. Taking a blissfully straightforward concept and then wrapping an extraordinarily compelling arcade-like structure around it, Beat Saber quite simply has players wielding two energy sabres and mashing them through waves of incoming blocks against the thrum of some crazy, foot-tapping beats.

It’s supremely enjoyable stuff that effortlessly nudges players toward the sort of high score chasing behaviour that was so prevalent in the now largely forgotten arcade scene. Throw in multiplayer functionality along with a seemingly inexhaustible selection of music and Beat Saber easily earns its place as an essential Meta Quest 2 game that everybody should buy.

Echo VR

echo vr

Echo VR is a hyperkinetic, zero-g sports title that has two teams of four players taking on each other in super competitive games whereby the object is to throw a Tron-style disc into the goal of the opposing team before they do the same to you.

Completely free to play and absolutely bursting with new seasons and frequent content updates, Echo VR has gained a massive following since its release and is certainly one of the better free Meta Quest 2 games that you can get right now.

Ghost Giant

ghost giant

Perhaps the most emotionally charged Meta Quest 2 game you could ever hope to play, Ghost Giant puts the player in control of the titular towering spectre as you attempt to help Louis, a deeply sad and lonely little lad who is trying to find his way through the world after a heartbreaking loss.

As the ethereal Ghost Giant you’ll help Louis navigate the painterly village of Sancourt, removing obstacles in his path, gently encouraging him to find himself again and also helping out his friends in this absolute tear-jerker, showing that games can still be wholesome and warmly sensitive while also being utterly compelling to play.

Gorilla Tag

gorilla tag

Still in active development in Meta’s App Lab but free to play for anyone who has a Meta Quest 2 headset, Gorilla Tag pretty much does what it says on the tin but with a twist, Gorilla Tag might just have the most unique movement in any VR game released to date. Instead of using buttons or a complicated combination of trigger movements to achieve traversal, Gorilla Tag instead has you swinging and leaping around a retro jungle solely through the use of your hands and arms, making movement feel a lot more satisfying than in many other games that boast a similar concept.

From basic tag to infection mode where one gorilla is infected and must infect their fellow gorillas, Gorilla Tag is a wonderfully offbeat and zany platformer that rarely fails to elicit a smile from those who decide to take the leap into its leafy realm.

Moss

moss, one of the best meta quest 2 games

A beautiful action adventure third-person perspective platformer, Moss puts players in control of Quill, a diminutive mouse hero with a big heart who must awaken a long forgotten magic in order to rescue her uncle from the icy talons of death and despair.

Marrying together pixel-perfect platforming with satisfying combat, Moss also brilliantly casts the player as a disembodied spirit that can remove obstacles in the world, allowing Quill to proceed on her magical journey. A great little adventure that packs in a ruthlessly adorable protagonist, Moss is a superb Meta Quest 2 game that deserves a place in everyone’s collection.

Pistol Whip

pistol whip

Look, Pistol Whip is one the best  Meta Quest 2 games around right now because it makes you feel like John Wick, which is great because everyones wants to feel like they’re John Wick. Earning itself a permanent slot in my Meta Quest 2 gaming diet, Pistol Whip is a rhythm based, first-person shooter that has you blasting guys while dodging and weaving between incoming fire to the beat of some pulse pounding music.

Throw in a range of different modifiers (including the ability to shoot with a gun in each hand, naturally) and a constant stream of updates that continually refine the game while adding in all new levels to play, Pistol Whip is absolutely the game that you use to show off your shiny new Meta Quest 2 headset.

Rec Room

rec room

It’s certainly fair to say that there isn’t another game quite like Rec Room on the Meta Quest 2, that’s for sure. A massive sandbox where players can come together to chat, play games made by other creators or even just leap headfirst into an entirely customisable universe where anything from puppies and tanks to huge sprawling cities can be created, Rec Room is a constantly evolving free Meta Quest 2 title where the only limits are those belonging to your imagination.

Resident Evil 4 VR

resident evil 4 vr

Transplanting Capcom’s much loved eighteen year old survival horror classic into VR is no mean feat and yet what developer Armature Studio has achieved is nothing short of jaw-dropping. Not only does Resident Evil 4 VR shift the entirety of Resident Evil 4 into VR, but it does so with verve, allowing players to interact with the environment and the objects within it in such a way that it echoes Valve’s superb VR showcase Half-Life: Alyx.

A timeless survival horror effort that has protagonist Leon S Kennedy attempting to rescue the daughter of the U.S. President from a shadowy cult in the darkest corners of Spain, Resident Evil 4 is a thickly atmospheric offering that has lost nothing in its leap to VR. With upgraded visuals courtesy of Unreal Engine 4 and additional Mercenaries content thrown in for kicks, Resident Evil 4 VR is as essential as games get on the Meta Quest 2 headset.

Everything you need to know about Victoria 3

Paradox Interactive are masters of grand strategy, from the Crusader Kings series to Europa Universalis and beyond, they’ve made some of the strategy games that have defined the genre. Now, they’re back with Victoria 3, the followup to the classic Victoria II, and it looks like it’s doing everything right.

In Victoria 3 we’re going to get a strategy game that delves deep into the 1836-1936 time period with almost infinite replayability and boundless decisions to make. It’ll test strategy veterans and provide a way in for newcomers, making it both the most challenging and more accessible game of its type yet seen.

Victoria 3’s shaping up to be something extremely special, here’s what you need to know.

What is Victoria 3?

what is victoria 3? Also some peasants

In Victoria 3 you’ll take on the role as the leader of a nation, with over 100 countries to choose from taken from the time period between 1836 and 1936. Where some strategy games take a narrow view of their subject, Victoria 3 is more holistic with you dabbling in politics, research, diplomacy, building, trading, and more. You really are the head of a nation and nations are tricky to run well.

That sounds like a lot to chew on but in Victoria 3 Paradox Interactive have overhauled the tutorial experience, helping new players and returning players get up to speed faster than ever before. One key part of this is everything having context, a click of a button can tell you not only what an option does but also why. This helps you learn so much more about how the game’s systems work and what you’re doing, helping ground the player in the reality of their decisions.

Your choice of nation and playstyle will determine much of how your nation proceeds through the game, and these choices can reflect your chosen values for a nation. Do you want them to be isolationist, expansionist? Do you want to focus on your population’s happiness or exploit them? Questions like these make up the bread-and-butter of the core gameplay, with even darker less salubrious options available for the more tyrannical ruler.

Overall it looks to be the game that fans have spent years clamouring for. More accessible, more deep, more of everything. It even looks stunning, with a fresh new lick of paint that makes the whole thing sparkle.

Everything you need to know about Destiny 2: Lightfall

Destiny 2: Lightfall is the next chapter in the ever-evolving story of the long running FPS MMO. All Destiny 2 expansions introduce new gameplay features and narratives but Lightfall looks to take us to places we could never have expected.

Announced during the Destiny 2 Showcase for 2022, we got to see plenty of what’s coming for the game. It’s going to be a busy time for Destiny 2 fans, here’s everything you need to know about the next expansion.

What is Destiny 2: Lightfall?

lightfall info here

If you’ve been playing Destiny 2 for a while you’ll be used to regular expansions, if you’re new to the game and this is your first expansion there’ll be a lot of changes to get used to.

Lightfall, like the expansions before it, will introduce a ton of new stuff. There’ll be a new campaign, new dungeons, new raids, and a new season full of updates that mean the game never stands still. With this expansion there’ll even be a new subclass – the first since Destiny 2: Beyond Light – which means there’ll even be new ways to play.

Let’s dive into the new stuff you’ll be getting to grips with.

Everything new in Destiny 2: Lightfall – Gameplay, Raids, Locations

tons to do in lightfall, more info coming soon

The first big change introduced with Lightfall is the unveiling of an entirely new location. It turns out that the Last City on Earth was exactly that, the last city…on Earth.

On distant Neptune an off-shoot of humanity has weathered the storm of the Collapse and thrived in secrecy. Their city, Neomuna, is now under threat by the dark forces of The Witness, led by the former Cabal emperor Calus.

The players will be heading there to fend off this invading army and learn more about The Witness’ plans for the solar system, looking to further the Light vs Dark narrative expanded upon in the previous expansion, The Witch Queen. Lightfall serves to set up the final expansion for this narrative arc, tentatively named The Final Shape.

In addition to new missions, campaigns, activities, and raids that are so far unnamed, we’ll be getting some long awaited overhauls to key gameplay systems.

New Lightfall UI and Gameplay Systems

Destiny 2 players rejoice! What you’ve been begging for is finally coming. That’s right, a Looking for Group tool will be integrated into the game, making finding someone to help you get your Gjallarhorn will be far simpler in the future.

Not only will we be getting an LFG tool but an entirely new revamp of the new player experience is planned. This will see players gaining ranks through completing certain activities, with higher levels denoting mastery of high-end combat encounters. Players will also be able to reward others with commendations, helping everyone take note of players who go above and beyond in the fight against evil.

But that’s not all, there’s one final new gameplay element coming with Lightfall, and it’s a big one.

Destiny 2: Lightfall Subclass – Introducing Strand

strand! new subclass coming to destiny 2 lightfall

With the release of Beyond Light players received their first Darkness-powered subclass, Stasis. Now with Lightfall the second Darkness subclass will be introduced – named Strand.

This green-tinged subclass revolves around consciousness and allows Guardians to manipulate connections between living things, themselves included.

What does this mean for the game? It means each class will get a new subclass that will open up new ways to play, from Warlocks gaining telekinetic matter-summoning abilities to Titans growing colossal green claws to allow them to hulk out.

Oh and one more thing. Everyone’s getting a Strand grappling hook that can be used to swing about, Spider-Man-esque. Even if there’s nothing to hang from the Strand swing can be used to grab onto midair. Suddenly movement is getting a big upgrade.

Release Date and Platforms

Everything you need to know about F1 Manager 2022

Designed with wannabe Formula 1 racing moguls in mind, F1 Manager 2022 allows players to immerse themselves in all of the strategic aspects of the world’s fastest motorsport. Naturally, our F1 Manager 2022 guide will provide you with the details on everything from the F1 Manager 2022 release date, early access and PC specifications, through to key features in F1 Manager 2022 in order to ensure you stay in pole position.

F1 Manager 2022 – What Is It All About?

f1 manager 2022 features absolute accuracy

The first thing that should be made clear about F1 Manager 2022 is that you won’t actually do any of the driving stuff. I know it might seem obvious, but it’s still worth mentioning all the same and after all, there are plenty of actual F1 racing games that let you do just that anyway. The focus of F1 Manager 2022 is instead on providing the player with complete control over all aspects of their Formula 1 team, allowing substantial creative freedom to change everything from the roster of drivers and pit crew, through to the engineering of the cars themselves and the numerous sponsorships and other fiscal responsibilities that a Formula 1 head cheese would be expected to deal with.

It’s also worth noting that despite its title, F1 Manager 2022 also lets aspiring motorsport bosses take control of Formula 2 and 3 teams too.

How Do You Build A Team?

In F1 Manager 2022 building your team is not some sort of trite activity, but rather a sophisticated tactical effort which demands that you create a hugely successful network of interworking groups to address every aspect of your Formula 1 management career. This essentially means fashioning a best-in-class team from scratch that includes maintenance personnel, drivers, admin staff and more in order to not just try and keep pole position in every season, but keep your finances and operations in the black too.

Your team in F1 Manager 2022 isn’t static either. As the seasons and years go by the performance of everyone on your team will begin to decline, luckily though you can scout out up and coming talent from other Formula 1 teams to keep yourself afloat.

How Does Car Engineering And Customisation/.

Though obvious, it cannot be understated just how crucial it is to master car design in F1 Manager 2022. Dovetailing into your overall management strategy, F1 Manager 2022 has you choosing parts and tweaking the racing profile of your ride.

As such, F1 Manager 2022 permits players to elect for a balanced design or focus on specific aspects, such as acceleration, tyre durability and so on depending on the dynamic requirements of the races and seasons ahead. Essentially, if there’s an element of Formula 1 racing that needs managing and monitoring, you’ll be taking full control of it in F1 Manager 2022.

What Actually Happens During Races?

Though players cannot take part directly in the racing side of things in F1 Manager 2022, those races are still played out in fully rendered glorious 3D visuals, with all the detailed recreations of global Formula 1 racing tracks, car models, dynamic weather conditions, crashes and more that ably reflects a contemporary broadcast of the world’s fastest motorsport.

Additionally, rather than relegating players to the role of an ineffectual observer, F1 Manager 2022 provides players with a substantial amount of creative control over the race itself, allowing players to adjust everything from in-car racing behaviour, pit crew management, under the hood pit tweaks and much, much more.

Does F1 Manager 2022 Support Multiplayer?

f1 multiplayer? not at this time

In its current iteration F1 Manager 2022 does not support multiplayer and is a single-player offering only. However as with just about any game, it isn’t entirely implausible that some sort of patch or update might arrive further down the line enabling players to compete with their mates for motorsport management supremacy.

F1 Manager 2022 Release Date – When And Where Can I Play It?

hope it's not a car crash ha ha ha ha

The F1 Manager 2022 release date has been confirmed as August 30, 2022. It’ll be getting a full release on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S platforms. Sadly, no F1 Manager 2022 Nintendo Switch release appears to be on the horizon, effectively consigning Frontier Developments Formula One management title to the pits on Nintendo’s super popular console platform.

F1 Manager 2022 Early Access – How To Play F1 Manager 2022 Before Release

brum brum

If you want to get into the F1 Manager 2022 early access period ahead of its official release date, it’s remarkably easy to do so. Quite simply, anybody that digitally pre-orders F1 Manager 2022 can get early access to the game five days ahead early on August 25, 2022. Can My PC Run F1 Manager 2022?

is your car fast enough?

Thankfully though, the F1 Manager 2022 PC specifications are fairly restrained for the most part, meaning if you’ve got a reasonable gaming rig from the last three years or so, you’ll be fine to watch your driver tear up the track just like that Lewis Hamilton lad with little issue.

Top Rocket League Tips and Tricks – Rocket League Beginner’s Guide

Looking for a beginner’s guide to Rocket League? We’ve got you covered. Rocket League celebrated its 7th birthday this year and Psyonix’s hit keeps going strong. Having switched to a free-to-play model back in 2020, there’s never been a better time to jump in for some car football. However, if you’re looking to get involved in competitive play, you’ll want to know the best Rocket League tips currently going.

At its core, Rocket League remains the same multiplayer game it was back in 2015.

We’re still competing in (usually) 3v3 teams to score the most goals over a 5-minute match,

controlling a rocket powered vehicle to shoot instead of using our feet. Rocket League’s an easy game for newcomers, you can’t tweak these cars for a performance advantage, it’s a difficult one to master.

Rocket League Tips

Within this list, you’ll find several tried and tested Rocket League tips and tricks for any newcomers. Just remember that like with anything, practice makes perfect and while we can’t score those impressive aerials for you, this advice can give you a competitive edge when starting out. With that in mind, here’s our top five Rocket League tips for improving your game.

Adjust the camera settings

I know what you’re thinking. You came in expecting advice on how to score stylishly and you’ve found us talking about camera settings? I’ll concede this isn’t the most exciting tip but hear us out, camera settings are crucial. Rocket League’s default settings showcase the action ahead decently, but should you wish, the game lets you individually tweak several key aspects, like field of view or distance.

This tip isn’t here to tell you exactly what this should be changed too. You might find other players have listed their own settings online, which is perfectly fine, but everyone has personal preferences. If you’re finding it difficult to land those specific shots or you’d like to see more of the arena, consider giving these a tweak. This could be the difference in securing that winning shot and losing the match.

Rotate between positions

Rotations are the key to any successful team coordination with Rocket League. If you’re looking to get serious in 3v3s, I’d suggest finding two friends willing to play, mainly because you’ll have a much easier time convincing them to follow a plan than random online players. That’s because rotations involve changing positions on the field to better assist your teammates, doing what benefits them instead of chasing personal glory.

Assuming you’ve not chosen 1v1 mode, you can’t always be the person taking shots and intercepting your opponent’s strikes. Talk with your squad, discuss who’s lining up the pass and who’s taking that shot, maybe hang back slightly if you know the ball’s not going in. You can’t win a team game by acting alone, make sure they know what you’re doing

Don’t go ball chasing

This tip is essentially an extension on my rotation advice and for good reason, ball chasers are a common problem in 2v2 and 3v3 matches. In a game where you’re aiming to score as many goals as possible, it’s naturally tempting to rush in for that hit, and we’ve all made this mistake when starting out as rookies. However, this can ultimately lose you the game and some prime scoring opportunities.

Why? It can put you out of position. When a teammate’s already dribbling up the side, they don’t need you gunning it right behind them, ready to strike if something goes wrong or to take the shot for them. If there’s no one in the middle, a good pass from said teammate suddenly amounts to nothing. By then, you’ve missed a goal scoring opportunity and frustrated teammates in one go. Just remember that you don’t need to take every shot.

Use boost carefully

Boosting is an essential part of any Rocket League strategy. Letting you store up to 100 boost units, players demolish an opponent’s car, take aerial shots, or simply move across the field at pace. Unfortunately, this gets quickly consumed and while each stadium has no end of boost pads, I’d recommend saving them until an appropriate time. After all, how many assists have we failed to convert because we couldn’t reach the ball in time?

Once you’ve hit maximum speed, further boosts are unnecessary and while it’s a sensible plan to keep your tank replenished, you don’t necessarily need to go out of your way collecting them. You’ll find smaller ones littered around an arena which restore 12 units, alongside 6 larger orbs that restore 100 units, though these take much longer to respawn. Remember that your teammates need a boost too, they’ll (maybe) thank you later.

Defend From the Back Post

Rocket League doesn’t enforce set positions like in football/soccer but when it comes to 2v2s or 3v3 matches, sometimes players hang back to act as a goalkeeper. If you’re winning a match and are taking a cautious approach, there’s no shame in acting defensively, of course, but this isn’t the best strategy. Ideally, you’ll want to place your car by the back post, the one furthest from whatever side of the goal the ball’s at.

That’s because you’ll have a better reaction window to intercept an aerial shot. If you’re positioned by the near post, there’s a much better chance your opponent can shoot this straight over your head. If there’s a teammate close to said opponent, that frees them up to attempt a direct tackle without compromising defence. Ultimately, it’s a better way to counter side shots than waiting in the middle.
